Yesterday and today at ANA.

I posted this in another ANA show thread yesterday, I'll copy/paste it for your review.

The show seemed pretty well attended. I talked to a Dealer friend of mine who indicated he'd sold a huge amount to a few people where no matter what happened, he was free rolling the rest of the week. I asked a few other Dealers how things were going and everyone was upbeat.

I found one Dealer who had a number of gold CAC coins in his case. Since I have 6 myself and one (a 1938 D Buffalo in PCGS MS 65) is identical, I asked to view his and priced it. $175 was being asked, about what I thought it would be.

I've yet to see any PCGS PL coins aside from Morgan's. I'm looking forward to that encounter.

I found one Dealer who had a few very reasonably priced Redfield's. A few Paramount's too. They seem to have come down a bit in price over the past year.

Going back to pick up a re-holder and drop off a submission tomorrow.

Anyone wanting to save some money on parking should be aware that the CTA lot about 4 blocks north of the Stevenson Center has all day parking for $7.00.

Today (Thursday) I got there about noon. The show seemed to have the same activity level as Wednesday. I stopped by my Dealer friend's table and they confirmed they were continuing to sell in great volume. I believe this was their best show ever (or that's the opinion I was reaching based upon their enthusiasm).

I had several objectives coming in. First I have a Mercury book I'm trying to fill with as many BU coins as I can afford. I really wanted the final page to be BU at minimum so everything from 1934 - 1945 I wanted bright and shiny.
I needed to pick up a re-holder at PCGS and give them a submission. I wanted to consult with Mark Salzberg on a few coins for is opinion (he reviews up to 3 coins each afternoon of the show, just get in line and he'll offer an expert opinion on anything you bring him). Finally I wanted to review the various displays assembled in the collectors competition as many cover subjects you would otherwise never learn about.

At big shows like this the Dealers have to be extra careful what inventory they bring since table space is limited and most want only their "best chance of selling" type of inventory. While I found a few raw dimes that would have filled holes I just couldn't cope with the high prices requested. As a result I walked out empty handed.

I walked the floor fairly thoroughly. There's so many coin types I've never even seen and know little to nothing about that the learning experience is immense. This is also the only place where you can see a 1913 nickel, bust gold from 1795 and after, Commems in their original packaging and paper money the size of horse blankets.

This was one of the more enjoyable show experiences I've had in a while.

If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

I forgot to mention that I brought a couple coins with me just for fun. I showed Dennis King an exceptionally colored Morgan (my coin photographed to the left) because I assumed he'd get a chuckle out of one so colorful it would make him weak in the knees. Dennis has what I believe to be the most extensive group of Morgan Toners since the Sunnywood collection.

Anyway, he viewed my "show and tell" and offered his opinion of how it got that way. As he handed it back I began to step away (not wanting to distract him further from the cases that pay his bills) he encouraged "bring me more coins to look at".

To that I pulled two more from my case and handed them over. Maybe his Friday highlight, certainly was mine.

There was actually a PCGS PL-designated type coin at the show. Cert 34979375. 1890 MS64 PL Seated Half Dollar. I wasn't too fond of it. Seated Half dollars from certain years, sort of come this way, with reflective dies. I'd actually prefer this specific coin not be PL that way the scratch wouldn't be as noticeable as it was in-hand. Just my 2c.
