Saw this service offered on ebay listings, and wondered how useful it can be?
Nice tie in with generating grading business too, by discounting the cost off the grading fee.

There are many experts here on the boards that can't give a definitive opinion using shoddy (sometimes doctored) eBay images. They need to see the coin in hand, so color me skeptical.
I, myself, wouldn't use it but it MAY be somewhat beneficial to a pure novice.

They're not offering "definitive" opinions.
These are the options pertaining to opinions of authenticity:
"Likely Genuine
Likely Not Genuine
Inconclusive (full refund)
Not Eligible (full refund)"

OK, poor choice of words on my part.
It may be helpful to a newbie but others would probably like to see the coin in hand.

I agree. Though based on what I see from EBay bidders, many of them could use such assistance!

The advantage here is you may not have to get it in hand. They may know it's a counterfeit and you can sit on your paddle.
Considering the experiences I've had with their attributions in the past, I don't think I'd trust any variety service they may offer now.
This service has nothing to do with variety attribution so your comment is meaningless. I can see where this can be of use to both sellers and buyers on ebay.

I didn't specify attribution. It's a consequence of mis and non-attribution in the past that I wouldn't trust them with anything now.
I think it is a great idea, personally!
I agree.
It could save a lot of people from making a mistake. And it is pretty cheap.
So many questions on these coin forums about error coins.
Apparently, NGC does not offer that service.
I could do it and they should hire me as I already look at every error coin on the bay.
I’ve utilized the service several times. Most coins come back as Likely Details Graded but for the first time today, two came back as Likely Not Genuine. The listings were removed without any action on my part. Clearly, eBay is using the information being gathered to delete counterfeit auctions.
I was credited back the grading fee. FYI.
They probably have a clause in there that says you could not buy and sell coins for a profit if you work for them, so I doubt you would want to do that... lol
You should have led with this. Fantastic news.
Well, if I already look at every error coin listing, then I would have already seen that coin and decided on whether to buy it or not.
If they insisted on such a clause, I would not take the job.
I just deciphered this one and won it with no other bids ....
I did some post-production in photoshop with the seller's images to make them a little better than the horrible supplied seller photography.
I hope I am right ......
To remove all less than honest ebay listings will be a Herculean task. I wish them good luck.
I don't buy or sell coins on e-bay but I do have a question/suggestion pertaining to it.
Maybe there's a liability on their part but wouldn't it be beneficial to e-bay itself to hire someone to flag the fake coins that are sold on there?
I see a lot of posts here calling out those coins and while I'm sure some are caught and pulled down I'd assume a good number probably get sold. I'll assume e-bay is responsible once they are sold and if they can't be returned e-bay refunds the money, correct?
I see a benefit in paying someone with a good amount of knowledge which could offset the cost of the refunds.
Again I do not buy or sell on there, and I'm sure I'm missing something, but does this make any sense at all? I suppose this is along the same lines as the service your talking about here.
If you’re lobbying for a job there, you’re probably on the wrong forum.😉

APPARENTLY? Just where did you get that idea? When did NGC STOP slabbing error coins?
I think he meant within the context of this ebay review service.
The ebay service is what I am talking about.
But to be fair, from personal experience a certain company (not PCGS) makes way more mistakes and the omission of extra errors on major error coins thru their error coin service. IMO, they need expert direction in the error coin department.
I am not lobbying for a job BTW, more of a joke as I never would move to Floridah.
Sitting in my office telecommuting in San Diego and doing that ebay service, sure
They got the idea from PSA, been doing it for autographs for awhile now

tell us how this turns out, it does not look like someone struck a nail through the reverse
It looks like stuck in metal on the Obverse, we will see
So, I can pay for the service on a coin I have listed and then publish NGC's results in my item description and jack up my price?
How soon before CAC offers a similar service?
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
I guess you could, but where I see the benefit for sellers is for selling a raw key date. Buy getting the "likely genuine" ok it could make such a coin easier to sell without having to send in for slabbing.
