OT: My trip to NYC! Lots of pics and some coin related stuff!

I posted a thread about going to NYC a few months ago that you may or may not have seen. This is the "report" of the trip. We started our day early last Sunday morning. Leaving the NE Ga. mountains heading for the big apple. Our first notable moment was an abbreviated stop in Philadelphia. I had never been there and we used technology(thanks Google) to find this old thing,,,(Any Franklin Half Collectors)?
I was amazed at how different it looks with and without sunlight! Upon further inspection...and yes, you can get close enough to almost touch it...Full Bell Lines are inconclusive!
Another coin related pic...This building was right next door:
There was a young man, probably in his mid-20s outside explaining the history of the Constitution and the writers. It seemed to be impromptu, but it was enjoyable for the few minutes we spent.
Our next stop was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier(Revolutionary War):
As we walked back toward where we are parked, I noticed the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. I work in consumer finance and banking, so for me, this was really a treat. You can go inside and they currently have a free program called "Money in Motion" that has interactive audio and video of all things relating to money, the US banking system, trivia challenges, video game type of things and lots more. You could easily spend a couple of hours in there! I will tell you though...for those of you who are handcuffed to your phones and other mobile devices...they do NOT allow any picture taking, audio or video recording of any kind without exception. We were told that immediately and assured that there are no warnings given to violators!
Our day in Philly ended with just that! We wanted Cheese steaks from the town where they were invented! We found a place not far and in the direction we were headed called "Joe's Steak and soda shop". Yum!
Our journey continued. Later in the day we found ourselves crossing the first of MANY bridges. This one is the Delaware Memorial. Beautiful structure and fantastic views:
My 25 year old son just had to be funny though. He said..."Why did Washington cross the Delaware since there is obviously a perfectly good bridge?" kids! Lol! Anyway. Northeast bound we continued. A bit of emotion, fear, excitement and uncertainty set in as I start to see NYC in the distance. We stayed in Brooklyn, but the path we traveled took us across from Elizabeth, NJ over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, through Staten Island then to our AIrbnb in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Our first night involved getting from where we were to Citifield for a doubleheader. First time on a New York subway! We got on our train and made the necessary transfers and got to the stadium mid way through the 1st game. We had a great time. And yes...we were Mets fans for the night! A couple of pics from our seats:
They won both games. 2nd was really exciting. After, we took Uber back to where we stayed. Tuesday morning we took another train into Manhattan. Living in small towns most of my life, this was a bit overwhelming...but in a good way. We found the Staten island Ferry and took it across the upper bay. We saw this pretty girl in the distance:
A 25 minute ride and we were there. A friend of mine who grew up there suggested an Italian restaurant for lunch. We took a MTA bus to the location:
Delicious!
After lunch we took a couple of other buses back into the City. We were dropped off near 1 WTC. A lot of emotions here that I don't need to mention, but I'm sure some of you can relate.
After spending time here we made our way to our main reason for this entire trip. The South Street Seaport. It was awe inspiring. I saw this and thought it was neat:
We made it!
The James Hunter Duo opened and they were fine, but I was there for the main act! 8:22pm they walked on stage:
Of course all good things have an ultimate ending and at just before 10pm, the final encore was done. Incredible performance, spectacular venue. To say I'm happy is an understatement! Lol. Feeling like a part of an old song....we "took the A Train" back to a station in Brooklyn and walked back to our place for a night of rest before the long journey home Wednesday. I thought of many of you on this trip. I have communicated with a lot of forum members who live in Virginia, Maryland, DC, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York during my years here. I wondered how close I might be to you as we drove. Fwiw....I didn't see any coin shops. And that's it! Life is good and I have a memory of a lifetime! Time to start a want list for the BRNA in Dalton in 2 weeks! Sorry that some of the pics are not that great, it follows suit with my coin photography most of the time!

While reading your report and while seeing all those great pictures, I felt as though I was actually there.

Cool post! I will be going to NYC in a few weeks, but just for a few days before a cruise. I will be close to two coin shops, Stacks and Brigandi Coins and will be making stops at both. Of course, I gotta catch all the other highlights, including the tall buildings, the statue, hot dogs and pizza!

@Hallco Great trip report!! I had suggested you stay in Brooklyn, I hope it was a good recommendation. As I said in your first thread, I lived in NYC from 99 to 06. I miss it a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
@Hallco
Since I currently cannot visit myself, I am living it through your post and pics. Thank you!
I used to live on Winchester Ave, right near there - how did I not know about this place??

You were close enough to get a free suite in Yankee Stadium from my liqueur distributor since I was still recovering my previous surgeries.
Normally , I don't even have the time to go due to work and family.
Thanks for the excellent report. For accuracy purposes the Goethals Bridge takes you from Elizabeth NJ to Staten Island, and the Verrazano Bridge takes you from Staten Island to Brooklyn.
Fabulous!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
It's been there I believe since 1972. Did you live near PS18 Elementary school?
Thanks everyone!
YES! I appreciate the correction LOL! We went over(high and low) many bridges in a short period of time and I was confused.
Wow, great trip!! Thanks for sharing.
Great trip and pics. I want to hit the "like" about 8 more times!
@Hallco....Great report and pictures... enjoyed the entire show.... Been to Philadelphia several times and visited those places.....You were about a hundred miles south of me.....The only skyscrapers here are mountains
Thanks for the pleasant journey and story... Cheers, RickO
I'd like to go into NYC one of these days to check out the historical exhibits like the ANS: http://numismatics.org/ Lots of good historical museums in the big apple.
If I had the luxury of several days in the city, I would definitely be checking out the numismatic possibilities. It just wasn't possible this time.
Wow, it looks like you had a great time and certainly saw a lot of attractions during your stay. I know most readers here just blew past this in your text .... "to our AIrbnb in Bedford-Stuyvesant" but this is a pretty high crime area in the City. I'm glad you had a great time and come back soon.

I've made the metro ATL drive to NY and back a couple times....never again, ha!
