Sorry for the long post, but interesting read.
SDB trip today
While visiting the SDB I started thinking about my first vintage gold purchase. After all, this addiction started out with vintage silver!
Well in 2015 I started documenting ALL vintage gold sales I could find...ebay, FB, IG, APMEX, Bullion Exchange etc..etc. on a spreadsheet because vintage gold prices were all over the place at the time. Two plus years later, I purchased my first gold bar. Granted, I patiently waited for the right bar(s) to come along and did not let impulse buying affect my decisions.
Hindsight spot prices were hovering between $1150+-$1250+ at the time I bought.
My spreadsheet over a couple years time showed an average .xx % over spot that these bars were selling for (the .xx % has doubled) by 2019....as demand has obviously grown.
And for the "vintage gold dealers" who claim to pay the most? Good luck buying from them because you the collector will pay the most from those dealers. Take time, research asking prices and sold items.
Note:
Be patient. There are plenty of opportunities that come up. Best example was my 10 Tolas (3.75oz) gold I bought off Ebay for $58.66 over spot at the time.
Now that gold spot has increased by ~$250-$350/oz over the past couple years, my vintage stack was purchased under spot at today's spot prices
No, this isn't a bragging post. It's a fact post to show that buying vintage gold at a % (fraction) over spot has out weighed buying vintage silver at multiple times (2-?? times) over spot.
Something to think about
Nice gold bars!
My pickup this week
With pic
cmanbb, nice work and great diligence! It is so interesting to me on these premium trends over time, in both silver and gold.
Nothing new for me this week, although it is nice to see an increase of activity in the Physical markets.
Stack on peoples, and enjoy the ride... Awesome picture Zubie channeling your inner Weiss.
It's all about what the people want...
Nice display there Zubster. Looks very Instagrammy.
I would sure like to get one like this.....Cheers, RickO
I wholeheartedly agree.
BUT
can tell you from experience that ...bars... are not that easy to sell.
POPULAR 1 oz bullion ....coins.
Generic bars I would agree. Vintage poured bars not so much. Speaking from my experience they sell well and they sell fast.
Great stuff!!!
May pull trigger on one of these!

@Zubie whatever this piece is, I like it! What weight is it?
Vanguard Metals. I had seen a couple pics before and happened to make a deal for one on the bay. Its really cool and pretty rare.

I got a couple of cool bars today...
250 gram. I know, it’s weird, no weight on it, but everything checks out perfectly:

And this: the bar on the left
I borrowed the silver one for the picture to show the drastic difference in size!

Love the Chiasso silver bars. I have a few weights, but that's a new one to me. Nice find.
Very nice items, thank you all for sharing !!!
I am feeling the need to get a silver bar or two..... been trying to stick to only ASE's (and a few art bars)... but these bars look good... Cheers, RickO
I believe it's an earlier one... No idea though, there's nothing on the internet to compare it to... Obviously it's uncommon.
