I like your PMD errors and also like buying those cent rolls on eBay with funny ends ... dimes, gold dollars, 3 cent silvers.

Speaking of 4Ts, has anyone seen his movie that was coming out?

  • I hope these are better, I put a magnifying glass under the scope to refract the light that reflects off the plastic. No editing software. And thank you CoinScratchFever, I’ve had so much loss in my life, including a child, that I have many ask why I’m still a Christian. My best response is until you feel it here, & I point to my chest, you’ll never understand it here, & I point to my head. There are 2 types of people in this world—“Those that bow their knees to God & say, ‘Let Your Will be done’ & those who will not bow their knees to Him & He Says ‘let your will be done’. Great understanding and starting point to explaining why bad things happen to good people, but still ‘Love’ Him. That word Love means it all!

I’ll try better pics if these don’t help...

I hesitate to comment, but has anyone mentioned that the originally posted coin is NOT a 1916-D? I'm getting that whole "I struck it rich!" vibe here and I'm not sure whether the OP realizes which 1916 he has.

    AMEN!

And my pics look much better using a cell phone than my scope, the color is never right with my cheap scope.

  • If I said D, I was mistaken. Sorry. This is the coin though.

No, you never said "D", just making sure. Seems like a lot of keystrokes being invested here.

  • I never said D, that was another statement from. Collector.

This looks to be the same poster who has started and/or posted to a number of threads about (alleged) O-mint Proof Morgan dollars on another forum. In each case, the posted pictures were of obvious business strikes - one or more of them, polished.

    :s !!!

This is not his first rodeo. then.

I read the posts at that link. Utter refusal to accept the facts.

    Oh well.

  • That was her coins & I got nothing but immediate refusal of possibility. I then decided to do the research myself & found the information I needed for the mint. They told me I was correct & im getting actual help....

There certainly is a lot of extraneous information in the OP's posts.
    Very strange.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
  • I didn’t want to mention the coin I found because it was an example coin sent to the mints as reverse proofs and were supposed to be returned & some were not. I’ve had a real professional look under a microscope & examine the silver and it is made from blue clay silver as I was mentioning earlier, so I don’t even know if it’s a legal coin if they didn’t send it back etc. it did take me by surprise when I opened the wooden box she had it in because it reminded me of those cheap sold ones on tv, the box was old. It is w/e they tell me.... there were a lot of very rude moderators in their forum though. Sometimes, especially in this market of so many fakes you have to do the leg work yourself.....

Yeah, why rely on numerous experts who all tell you what you don't want to hear. Just do you own "leg work" that it must an impossibly rare coin because your Grandfather worked for Halliburton.

    But super entertaining thread!

    "Blue clay silver"????

I asked a question earlier about it to the group & I guess no one knows about it. Too much to explain, but if you research, you’ll find it. Basically the purist vein of natural silver ever found and they were dumping it out of the way until someone with common sense discovered it was pure silver. Morgan produced most the earlier year Morgans with this clay & a lot of my 1878’s and 1879’s have this bluish hue. Especially the 1878-s because the clay came from San Francisco.

  • Purists form of natural silver found & it was said not understood yet. They were mining gold at the time...

  • ifthevamzarockinifthevamzarockin Posts: 8,908 ✭✭✭✭✭

I always wondered what caused purple toning on Morgans. :D

@Gavenadam1 "it was an example coin sent to the mints as reverse proofs"

Was this a Morgan reverse proof you sent or a branch mint proof?

  • Reverse proof

  • ifthevamzarockinifthevamzarockin Posts: 8,908 ✭✭✭✭✭

Okay...reverse proof. Of what design or denomination?

  • ifthevamzarockinifthevamzarockin Posts: 8,908 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Google is your friend. :)

"The first reverse proof coin issued by the U.S. Mint was the 2006 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle, released for the 20th anniversary of the series."

  • Examined and compared to ever which way to fake a coin like this. Also my friends— an important test, I know she’s had it since the 40’s & there is no test better than that one. The atom bomb!

  • t was incredibly difficult to mine gold in this region because of "that infernal blue stuff," a rich blue clay that impeded mining efforts. Savvy miners reasoned there had to be a reason why the clay was blue, so they took samples to San Francisco for testing. The results showed that this clay contained some of the purist silver ever found.

At first, only a scant few knew about the clay. They vowed to keep it a secret. True to human nature, this did not occur. Within days, tens of thousands of miners were flocking to the area, and everyone was staking a claim.

Even Samuel Clemens, aka Mark Twain, said he staked a claim. His story is that he and three partners spent six months in a cabin drinking, playing cards, digging and panning. They found a rich vein of silver and he spent ten days dreaming of what it would be like being a multi-millionaire. At that time, work on a new claim needed to start within 10 days. During that time he was called away to visit a sick friend. He thought the partners were working at the strike, but that was not the case. In the end, someone else had staked claim to their find.

That 1881 is the same one you posted about it being a branch mint proof.....now it's a reverse proof?

Please don’t tell me you believe everything on google and I’ve seen reverse proof world coins in my collection from the 1700’s. They were tired of all the mistakes in Philadelphia. This was supposed to be exactly what they wanted when they did there procedure. I was told this by a guy from the Philadelphia Mint & was not to give his name.

  • Have you ever seen any of the coins from Egypt? Much less the huge Helmets. King tuts sword was recently said to be made from an asteroid metal. If you really believe that history is how they tell us then yes, that was the first. I promise I’ve seen ancients look better.

  • There is truth to that, because these were never meant to be kept or spent.

Either that, or you make it up as you go along.... ;)

BTW, in regard to that rare blue silver, it doesn't matter how pure it was when it came out of the ground. The mint refined it and alloyed it to 90% before using it to make coins.

Anyone else feel like we've been through a thread or two like this before? :#

    1. All silver is atomic number 47.
    2. You don't purify silver with acid. You can DISSOLVE minerals with acid. Silver dissolved in acid is COLORLESS.
    3. NO MEDAL (or metal) can be turned into silver with acid. Transmutation of elements can only be achieved using an accelerator.
