Something we all already know Dept. :(

I just looked at a copy of The Centinel published by the Central States NS. Except for the show staff and two children, the folks in every image are VERY OLD. Gulp. Sorry if I offended any of the younger fifty year old guys.

Someone has to send all of those packages back and forth in the mail.
Yes. Unfortunately, it is true. Go to a stamp show, they'll look younger.
I do think there are younger collectors, but they collect different things in different places. But I do feel a fundamental shift happening. If I knew where we would end up, I'd be rich in 10 years. But, it will be an interesting journey.

Look up a copy of the latest issue of "Bicentennial" published by the Not Quite Central Numismatic Club. All of the people in those photos have been dead for years ! And, they are still Club Officers !
QUESTION? You have me on "Ignore." How can you see my discussion?
How can you tell that RogerB has you on ignore?

I tried to PM him and it would not go through because he had me on

The perennial collector old age discussion....This has been a constant topic since I was a young man....Of course the social media then was coin clubs, shows and shops...It is true, that older collectors are more generally recognized for their expertise, and they certainly have a large network. However, there are young experts as well...here on the forum too....The hobby is not dying, we have collectors of all ages - YN's to old timers....Cheers, RickO
Dude, I am in my 70's. There must have been a lot of old guys in their 80's and 90's in the photos.
I attend basketball games for my fav college team. The arena is large (more than 18,000 plus). For years people complained that a majority of the folks near the floor and better seats were not loud enough, did not stand enough and were not spirited enough. You know why? The tickets are expensive! The people who stand and scream the entire game are younger and generally cant afford season tickets. The people in the more expensive seats were older and rather sit.
There will always be more coin collectors in their older years because at any level collecting takes extra funds. There is no fundamental change----coin collecting has been around for centuries and will be in the future.
Mine too!
Only the visionaries are ignored...the dullards, never!
You may be right but when I started collecting the old guys were the now dead dealers. Most of the guys at the shows were below thirty. Now, I'll admit that things were probably different at the first ANA I attended in DC. I was not looking around at the people. Locally, most collectors were younger. Today, I'll bet most REAL collectors are over fifty. I consider most active members of CU to be Real collectors. A while back we had a poll about our ages but I don't remember the results.
.
If that's the case then I'm quite confident in assuming that my fan base must be exceedingly large.......Really, REALLY, big.
I have noticed a younger demographic at several recent shows I have attended.
And, more importantly, they were spending money.
And, some of them actually used.....(gasp).......cash.
You can still see all discussions posted by the person you ate ignoring. You can also see the comments on other people's discussions, but you have to click on them to read them

When you ignore someone they still show up in your discussions and can still read yours.
I can dig it when a 70 year old/young still says "dude".
I'll be 35 this month. That's young around here, right?
