    Not genuine.
    One tell is the lumpy and mushy texture on the lettering and Wheat stalks, especially "E PLURIBUS UNUM".

    The date and mm look legit. But the coin looks cast to me.

    If real, heavily processed. Stay away.

    I say real with ED and a botched attempt to make it look red again.

    Obv seems fine as far as the markers go, but the rev looks very off. It may have been a very late die strike for the rev combined with lots of ED and a possible recolor attempt; or it may be some type of copy as suggested. At any rate I would not consider buying it unless its under $20

    What’s the magnet test say?

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

    I call that a fake cent... The reverse is the most telling with poor letters and the obverse image features look puffed up....I would not buy it....for any price. Cheers, RickO

    As soon as I see strange marks around the date or mint mark the hair stands up on the back of my neck. I'd stay away from this one.

    Most counterfeits are not magnetic.

    I agree... it was the first thing I saw that sent my hackles up... but don't let this be your only metric to gauge authenticity. Counterfeiters can take a real 1914-D, make a cast and then a fairly reasonable facsimile that will have the correct date/mm spacing. When in doubt, buy slabbed!

    @Hemispherical
    It does not stick to a magnet.

    Thanks everyone for the help!
