I always smile when I see that so called crying Indian. He is an actor and is a second generation Italian American and that tear is actually glycerin.

growing up along Lake Erie in the early 1960's we used to collect pop bottles and it was commonplace in the entire Country to see trash thrown out like it is at the Chief's feet in that commercial. Lake Erie was polluted like most other American bodies of water, not by garbage as most people think, but by industrial waste and detergents, nitrogen based stuff that caused algae blooms which depleted the Lake of oxygen. wildlife was affected and to see a Deer in Ohio was unusual.
because of commercials like the one shown, awareness and people like Ralph Nader we now have the EPA and people are keenly aware of littering and polluting. the result --- Lake Erie is one of the BEST Walleye lakes in the entire World, we have a four deer limit during hunting season and people are pretty conscious of littering. the environment as a whole is a lot, lot cleaner.

Walleye is the best fish ever. We used to go up to Meta Lake, only way in and out was float plane.

Yes! All of that is true. In fact, the pollution got so bad that the Cuyahoga River caught fire!
indeed, the river was on fire, a depressing memory from that era. though I don't go to the "Flats" as often as I did when I still drank, they have cleaned it up nicely. not really upscale, but some nice clubs, bars, restaurants and concert venues. people come up the Cuyahoga and dock along the wall to eat and party. it's a nice experience compared to when the place was clogged with Industry.
aside to Perry --- I got your point, that's why I asked about Grey Owl. his real name was Archie Belaney. he immigrated to Canada from Great Britain in the early 1920's, just after WWI, and settled in upper Canada. as a child he was fascinated with what was coming out of America regarding Native Americans, so he found work at a resort guiding hunters. he was "adopted" by a Tribe and learned their way of life to the point where he lived a dual-lifestyle and had everyone fooled, they thought he was Ojibway.
although he trapped and hunted he became obsessed with the fact that the environment was changing and Beaver were becoming harder and harder to trap. he viewed them as a key factor in a healthy ecosystem and wrote a book, "Pilgrims in the Wild" which brought him unwanted recognition. he lectured and toured, going as far as being invited to Great Britain for lectures and an Audience with the Queen. this proved to be his undoing as a small town reporter exposed his true identity, but not until after he had died.
Archie Belaney/Grey Owl understood Human impact on the environment 30-40 years before anything was really done about it. just like Iron Eyes Cody, born Espera Oscar de Corti, he placed the cause ahead of himself.
the book "Pilgrims in the Wild" is worth reading and the movie "Grey Owl" is well worth watching.
When I first saw this coin, I couldn't freaking believe it as it is perfect. I googled the crying Indian image and said bingo. I remembered the ad clearly from my childhood.
I had to have it, no question. I nuke bid to be sure to win this Unique Iconic Icon.
I also occasionally nuke bid.

@ErrorsOnCoins Curious, I think I understand Struck Through meaning something was between the coin and the die when it was made, but why is in not embedded still? Does the foreign stuff often fall out after minting, leaving only the cavity?

You are correct about errors on gold coins being very rare. This is the largest error that I have seen on a gold coin. The super cool thing is that error is on an American Buffalo (not an AGE) and has perfect placement. The stars really lined up on this one

I tried very hard NOT to get that type of image as the struck thru wanted to go shinny.
I customize my lighting for each and every coin.
