Hello everyone, hope all is well. I was hoping to get a little feedback on this 2000P Jefferson Nickel. I'm seeing possible doubling on the reverse on the "N" in United, the "S" in States, and possibly "M" in Monticello, maybe a few other spots, these pictures are from a few different positions to eliminate any "shadow theory" ( I guess that's what I'd call it lol) Any and all feedback is more than appreciated, and if you see anything I may have overlooked or whatnot , let me know what you think , I'm all ears.... thank you kindly.

A lot of post mint damage will cause any premiums for any errors to be negated.

@Babylove27....Welcome aboard.... That nickel certainly has PMD.... however, the effect you are seeing on those letters is called 'machine doubling'... no numismatic premium. Cheers, RickO

  • I agree hemispherical. I wish it was in better shape if it is a DD .

  • @ricko, Thank you, I was hoping for the real deal, do you know if there are any 2000 DD nickels out there? It sure would be nice to find any first variation🤔or variety...🤯 that was too much thinking for a Saturday lol😂

Wirh all due respect. it is best to focus on years with known DDs. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of time looking for DDs where none exist.

Until you can tell DD from MD, at least, that is the best use if your time, IMHO.

  • @JBK, do you know where i might find the best info on varieties? I definitely spend way too much time looking at nearly every coin I get. 🧐🤪

@Babylove27....There are no 2000 Jefferson nickels DDO/R listed in the Cherry Pickers Guide Vol. 1...and if you are looking for varieties, I highly recommend you get the CPG Vol 1 & 2....Cheers, RickO

My approach would be to make a list of known varieties (see above resources), then plow through volumes of coins, checking each one for obvious strike errors and scrutinizing those on the list for those varieties.

    Volume, volume. Volume.

As I like to say, it is better to.look at more coins than to look at fewer coins more closely.

  • Thank you all for the feedback, and sources from @Oldhoopster, I will be checking into those, just out of curiosity, what if say this 2000 p nickel I have in fact was a doubled die? would it be something special since there aren't any from 2000? Or would it just be an average find and not worth getting stabbed? I've been collecting coins for about a year and a half steadily now, and have yet to find a doubled die, but I'm learning and I'm excited to actually know what to look for, who woulda thought that all of the different varieties and types are out there and actually logged for a checklist lol. I actually have a few very interesting coins that I believe might be the only one to exist, if anyone might wanna help me out by looking at a few pics please let me know and I can inbox you what I have , I promise you won't be disappointed. Thanks everyone, I'm loving this site so far, all of you have been kind and honest. Til next time love ,peace , and chicken grease. 😆😜😁
