Need help with football signatures...

leppacleppac Posts: 33

Hi all - I recently picked this ball up at a yard sale. I know Willie Gault is one signature, but am at a loss for rest. Any help is appreciated. It needs a new air valve, so I'm trying to decide if I want to get it fixed or leave as is. I guess signatures will help determine that. It is a Pete Rozelle ball.

Thanks.

Last pic looks like Mel Gray @3:00 and Brian Urlacher around 9:00

The top-middle one in the last picture looks like Sylvester Stamps. He played for the Falcons and Buccaneers from 1984-89.

I think Morten Anderson is in the center of the first photo, and Jim Beech is second-from-right in the second photo. Robert Awalt is far-left on third photo

Todd Tobias - Grateful Collector - I focus on autographed American Football League sets, Fleer & Topps, 1960-1969, and lacrosse cards.

The one below "Wilson" could be Harry Hamilton. He wore $39 for the Jets from 1984-87, and the Buccaneers from 1988-91.

The one to the right of Morten Andersen, and upside-down, is Steve Tasker.

  • Top picture far right is Steve Tasker. Define Morten Anderson in the center on top pic.

  • Definitely MA not define. Stupid iPhone autocorrect.

The one below Willie Gault, is Nick Lowery (ends with the "goalpost").

The Jim Beech is actually Jim Breech.

Far-left in picture #2 could be Jackie Slater.

I think the one below Morten Anderson, is Mike Prior.

The one below Sylvester Stamps, is probably Mike Kenn.

The ball looks to have been signed between 1987-89 as a few that signed only wore that number during the years mentioned. A hall of famer with another couple that might be in someday!

Harry Hamilton - Safety - Tampa
Mel Gray - Kick Returner- NO-Det (not the 1970's receiver)
Sylvester Stamps - Kick Return - Atlanta
    Steve Young - Quarterback - Tampa-SF
Morton Anderson - Kicker - NO
Steve Tasker - Specialist - Bills
Jim Breech - Kicker - Cincy
Rob Awalt - Wide Receiver - St. Louis

Where do you see Steve Young?

The #8 on the ball is Nick Lowery, the kicker for the Chiefs.

I think the only ones left are the one on the end next to Steve Tasker; the #99 to the right of "Wilson"; and the one between Brian Urlacher and Mel Gray.

Wow! Thanks for all of the responses! Unfortunately, Wilson said they won't repair it 'cause it's signed.

Any other way of repairing it when the air valve is pushed all the way inside ball and loose?

Looks now not to be Urlacher as the last name looks like a K. Thought Bears and saw past the mark thinking from the other signature

You can buy football repair kits on Amazon.com. They come with a new bladder, laces, and a lacing tool (make sure it comes with the lacing tool, as some do not).

There's also a video on i think YouTube outlining the procedure. Make sure you watch the video to get an idea of what it takes.

I got it wrong then. I looked at Steve Young's auto right after i thought it might be him. It looked nothing like it but I thought maybe it's an early signature or he just had a tough time signing the ball.

    Nick Lowery it is!

This might be the most random mix of players to sign a ball. Generally, you can figure out where the item might have been signed like a team ball in a certain year, pro bowl, or some kind of hall of fame event. I can't seen to fathom what event brought

Yes, I agree. It is very random. The person I bought it from had no info to add. Main selling point for me was Willie Gault, since I didn't have him in my '85 Bears collection. Only cost me $3.00
