Has any one ever seen or owned a 1917 buffalo nickel with a die crack by the L in LIBERTY going into the rim? I only ran across one in the past 20 - 25 years.

I do not recall one, however, being that small, it could be overlooked on worn specimens....I have a lot of old Buffs in a coin cabinet...I will look when I have some time...Cheers, RickO
No, but on ones that I'm interested in I do check.

I've got a diagnostic sheet for one of these graded as a Proof sometime between 1978-1984. I've been looking for another example also.
That's actually what made me start looking.
Given the look of the one you have, maybe this die failed early into its life and that's why they are hard to find, and why they look nice when you do find one. How's the reverse on that one?

Sorry I had forgotten about that one. I think it comes with age, forgetfulness!
For example sometimes I will tell my son a joke and he says, “Hey dad, you told me that last week!”.
I guess same principal applies here.

There's nothing wrong with starting a new one. Clearly there is still interest!
