Got it, too. It doesn't even cover the tax I have to pay. More than likely, I will let this one pass.

Agree, ebay shows zero love for people who actually spend money on a regular basis, IMO.

ty for the heads up, I got it too!

  • I know beggars can't be choosers, but I love that I made a $200 purchase at 8;45 this morning and got the eBay bucks notification at 11:20. Dang you, eBay!

Received it and used it. Had not looked at my watched items in a while. A card that I had made an offer on twice had now dropped below the offer that was turned down.

  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,585 ✭✭✭✭✭

It only offsets the tax, so it's no big help anymore. Haven't bough on eBay in forever cause of the tax.

I think I've been guilty of that as a seller a couple times! Even though I try to price my stuff lower than any listed...it happens.

Agree - definitely not complaining. Much happier to get the card for the lower price. When I make an offer I try to make one I think has a good chance of being accepted.

I received the 8% as well.

Here, too. 8% Bucks - 6% tax = 2% gain. Not enough to entice me. eBay is going to have to start upping the 10% Bucks offers to 12%+ in order to offset the tax.

Ebay charges me 8.62% tax in Oklahoma. So even with 8% off it doesn't offset the tax. Some sellers will send private offers of 10% off an item I'm watching. Where I would have bought the item in the past with the 10% discount, it's just not enough of an offset now to justify the purchase. If you're an ebay seller and I'm watching one of your items (I have the same user name), shoot me a message here and we can both save some money. B)

As a proud University of Tulsa alum, it pains me to agree with a Sooner fan. :) But I'm there as well. I have started mentally adding 10% to every bid I'm making as I calculate what items are actually costing me. When I'm bidding on a group of racks, for example, the math has started making it harder to justify ebay purchases. With shipping plus tax, and with the reality that ebay and Paypal suck money from the sellers as well, I can't fathom why more people aren't moving to the Facebook groups to sell stuff. Someone who is selling a $50 group of packs, doesn't get that full $50. And I end up paying at least $60, if not $65, for the $50 item. So I'm out 60-65, and the seller only gets 45 or so. The math is eventually going to start causing some problems, as the market is going to have to adjust to buyers and sellers getting hit on both ends of the transaction.

Said perfectly......Yes, Uncle Sam along with EBAY constantly tweaking and upping fees will eventually be the complete game changer. I predicted this 10 years ago and still have not figured out what my future path of buying and selling will be in regards to vintage cards. Plus at some point Uncle Sam is going to want a piece of every penny. They will close all loopholes. Not sure how all of this plays out.

In regards to FB and stuff....Lots of low end/junky vintage items. Rarely do I see any real quality items. Also, surprisingly many sellers really don't want to do deals off of EBAY or some will do 5%. I have contacted many folks off of EBAY and most times get no response at all. It is frustrating.

Yes. Oklahoma alum. Dad took me to my first OU game in 1979. It was at Rice in Houston (we were living in San Antonio at the time). I just remember having a blast and my fandom has never wavered.

Same. I once contacted a guy who was selling some pretty expensive unopened boxes on eBay. He lived about 90 minutes from me, so I asked him if he'd sell them to me at a discounted price, and I'd even come right to his door to get them. I explained that he'd be paying this fee and that fee, plus the shipping cost, all of which were substantial. My price for the boxes was still more than what he'd be netting, but less than what I'd be paying out after shipping and taxes. His response, "Why would you want to drive to me to buy the boxes?" I didn't bother to reply. Those boxes are still sitting on eBay.

I guess I can let that slide, lol. My father was from Stillwater and I still have relatives there. My cousin and her crew set up to tailgate every home game. I try to get down there at least once a year for a game but have yet to make it to Bedlam. One day, hopefully. I know that game is at OSU this year but the Cowpokes don't appear to be quite as solid as I would like them to be going up against OU.

Thanks for the heads up. This helped me bridge the gap between an offer and a counter offer.
