Anyone else collect dime savers?

I have been collecting since around 1974, and surprisingly I haven't taken much time off from it. As of the moment I have every U.S. dime back to 1885 (with exception of the high dollar, rare 1894s) most in circulated/au grades beyond the early Liberty series. Roosevelt's and late Liberties are mint state. That said, and to keep active, I switch off between Peace dollars and these old dime savers until the semi/key dates become available in both grade and price I'm looking for. No easy task if you are familiar with Seated Liberties.

So, does anyone else collect these? Personally, I think they're beautiful pieces of numismatic history.

Not currently, but I should. I like them and see them at shops and shows from time-to-time. That's a cool one you posted.

I don't collect them but have some experience with them as a youngster. In my family, it was common for newborns to be gifted these dime savers as a christening gift. I still have all the dimes from these in tubes (mostly circ mercs), but the boards are long gone.

I also used to save dimes as a kid, circa 1960. Filled a board and deposited the $3 to my savings account in the local savings and loan. I've been trying to find a dime saver from my S&L, but the chances are slim I will find one.

We had a collector of these when I was at Harlan Berk in Chicago that I saved them for. He got a lot of them from me.

I've always liked these. Unfortunately, over the years, I'm sure I emptied and trashed many of them.
They're not only a throw-back to numismatic history, but to our economic history as well......

I remember them from when I was a kid... I have not collected them. When I got out of the Navy, and was living in Maine, I used to put all my dimes in an RAF pewter tankard I have.... then, when December came, I would cash them in and buy the holiday spirits (Scotch, Bourbon etc.)....So I guess my tankard is technically a dime saver ;) Cheers, RickO

I have a couple somewhere. Neat souvenirs of a by-gone era when a full one was worth something.

Thanks all. What I've found, personally, is that these make great gifts for younger people. I've given away a few upgrades with two or three added coins related to the year of issue. My niece filled hers with some nice Mercuries. Now she's into foreign coinage.

Did they make these savers for other coinage? I seem to remember a penny and quarter saver deal from my childhood. It was a local area bank called calvert. I believe there were only 2 or 3 branches or am I mistaken?

I don’t collect them, but I absolutely love them. I remember them as kid, used both as a saving device that banks promoted, as well as a way to save money for charities. Hope other folks post some interesting ones. Love these little savers.

When I was in grade school, yes we did have electricity back then,we had a weekly savings plan promoted by the school and local Savings bank. A smaller than a legal size envelope which was yellow/brown like in color was provided. And a coupon card of sorts included. You would list the amount on the card that was included in the envelope and on the outside of the envelope. It was usually change from our parents or bottle deposit $ we had accumulated. Sometimes currency. I remember some of my classmates jamming their change in these envelopes. The people handling these cash laden envelopes must of been real honest all the way down the line to the bank. Cannot recall anyone's deposit being shorted. Were any other schools doing this in your area?

I love dime savers! I snap them up whenever I come across them. I also like the quarter versions.

I like them. Exonumia that got kids thinking about saving for the future. Got 9 the other day for $4 hiding in a big box of postcards at my local flea market. Peace Roy
