I looked up the original auction records for that and several others that the same seller had. I was watching that one and was a bit surprised when it went that high, but it looks to be pretty nice. What will it grade in your opinion.
Edited to say after further examination: There’s just a slight hairline or two - mostly just lintmarks and planchet voids with a touch of haze. I’m gonna call it PR65+ CAM
Am I missing something? Why did you just tell him "YOU SUCK" ?
DiggerJim
It is a term used around here when someone gets a great deal on a coin.
For instance, if I find a 16-D merc in mixed 90% and told about it here someone would promptly tell me that I suck.
I’m a BIG fan of quick cell phone pics like this .... TruViews are great of course ... but these quick ones where you can see some background to gauge the color balance — really let the in-hand nature of truly nice coins shine through.
Looks like a good pickup with little downside and a great potential upside. The old auction write-up sounds spot on with your observations. I think you did well, Congrats!

I bid just under the same. But the old auction description mentions hairlines so I didn’t chase
nice research and purchase!
post the grade/trueview when it comes back so we can see if you really won, or the under-bidder. haha, jk. i think you bid right on the money...more potential upside than down.

Good luck with the submission and please let us know.
here's the page from the 1976 auction. It's #1026

Wonderful Trade Dollar. Is this history in the making: A quality raw coin on Ebay?
Wow 40+ years in that flip and no PVC?
He who knows he has enough is rich.
Look at those rims.
Pretty nice snag for the bay. Nice mirrors.
The original auction package makes it even cooler in my opinion. Well done.
Nice
Wow. Congratulations!!!
U.S. Type Set
Love that you:
1) search for coins on ebay and
2) buy raw coins
Respect.
Beautiful coin!

I may have been bidding against you on these - what I loved most was the provenance. 1026 is this coin: https://archive.org/details/mountvernonsale1976supe/page/184 - let us know what it grades out at.

A raw buy on Ebay...?
Wow!
If that was you, did you bid on the 1877?
Am I missing something? Why did you just tell him "YOU SUCK" ?

Great looking proof and super purchase.
I've purchased plenty of high grade raw coins on Ebay over the years that have turned out very favorably, but I buy mostly Canadian coins.
Ebay is still a great place to buy and sell.

Very nice TD!
That shipping charge is outrageous!!
I feel fortunate knowing we don't search for the same stuff on eBay. ;-)
Btw, YOU SUCK!
That is a beautiful Trade Dollar.... Congratulations... Look forward to seeing it in our hosts slab....Cheers, RickO
And a raw Trade Dollar at that!!!
If I’d seen that, I probably would have thought ‘boy those counterfeiters are really getting good’.
Me too.
That is why TDN is who he is and we aren’t.

Sweet pickup!
True that!
Oh def send it in - fast - this is a really cool play.
The treasure hunt sure is fun when armed with knowledge and funds. Nice find!
Those are some sharp rims (fins?) on the reverse 1 to 3 o'clock...and obverse too (10 to 3 o'clock)! Be care not to cut yourself.
Really nice looking!

I assume it’s going in to be graded/slabbed. I’ve never done that, how long will it take to get it back with the Trueviews?

Well, I was the underbidder on both of the Mt. Vernon proofs and needless to say I am sad to have missed out on them
My snipe bid didn't even go off. I was hoping for a real score and was a few hundred under...

I see this auction includes 30 day returns. TDN, are you sending it back? LOL. 😂

Your pictures make it look much better than the auction. It also looks like you paid close to 64 money.
What is the most you have ever paid for a raw coin on eBay?
Did you get this graded yet? Inquiring minds want to know
