This Van/Montmorency cherry variety is amazing. Just picked 20 pounds in less than an hour on one organically grown tree at home. And no worms for a change!
Now back to coins... Reminder only 2 more hours to vote for Digital Album Registry winners.

Those look like pie cherries....a little tart are they?? Used to have a tree like that in our backyard when I was growing up... Mom canned a lot of cherries ...That my brother and I had to pick...Cheers, RickO
That is beautiful. We have a very small yard but have managed to get some nice peach trees. Home grown tastes better for sure.
Nice cherry pickin
After further review we believe these are indeed Montmorency pie cherries, not Van's. This is one of those trees that supposedly had, Vans, Rainier's, and Montmorency's, according to the tag on it, but these are the only ones that grow well and make great pies! .
So again, you proved variety identification is tricky, and best left up to the experts

No problem! Here is the one of your tree.
Cherry pie is the best pie. I'll pick it over any other, every time.

Love cherries as well.
So where were these Montmorency cherries grown?
Having lived in Michigan and Wisconsin, we were taught that these cherries came from Montmorency County Michigan (or other northern counties) or Door County Wisconsin, July 4 seems early.
If you like tart fruits, don't forget the cranberries...….

These cherries were grown in Spokane, Washington. This is an unusually good year. Mostly the weather is not right, but we had a range of cold and moisture that worked with good greenery. Self-pollinating, so an easy, good variety that way.
Have cranberries, but they are always too tart really.
