1990 Donruss Aqueous Test
Hello everyone. New to the forum. I want to start by first apologizing if I'm beating a dead horse with this topic, but I believe it will be worth it. I recently purchased a large collection, 2500 cards or so, of mixed sports cards from a coworker and have been going through them a little at a time. I usually only collect basketball cards and this collection is 85% baseball so I'm not real familiar with what/who I should be looking out for. While going through the enormous amount of cards I came across a large amount of 1990 Donruss cards and as I looked through them found several that had AQUEOUS TEST printed diagonally across the back. After going through every card I have, I've wound up with a total of 55 Aqueous Test cards. I've done about as much research as I can and see that these are fairly rare. I don't know what I need to do going forward. Should I have them graded and authenticated or try and sell them raw. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will post a list of the cards and number of each I have.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you have as much fun around here as we do.
@LarkinCollector please pick up the red curtesy phone at the front desk. Thank you.
Andy
doubledragon thank you and I'm sure I will!
Oilman2383, familiarize yourself with the LOL button, you're gonna need it.
Here is a pic of the Larkin.
@ReggieCleveland is probably going to be interested in this thread, as well.
@Oilman2383 Awesome find!
Indeed. I'll be very interested in what our resident experts have to say about these aqueous tests. I never tire of reading and learning from you guys.
Andy
I've certainly got my bag of popcorn ready.
Thank you! I was pretty stoked about it myself once I started researching them. Just curious if they're still as rare and wanted as they used to be.
Cool find. No Mattingly

Thanks! Nope, no Mattingly. I did find a Nolan Ryan King of Kings when I first started going through them. Once I found the other aqueous test I was hoping it was one also, but no luck.
@bobsbbcards is our resident aqueous test collector
I would say grade them all and auction them off. The duplicates you can set BINs after you see the market value.

It's true. While my passion for 1990 Donruss burns in my loins with the heat of a supernova, when it comes to Aqueous Test, Bob is the top dog.
The commons don't bring much money but, as has been mentioned, the stars very much do and it looks like you have a lot of star power there. Trammel, Alomar, Bonds, Ripken, Larkin and Sandberg are no-brainers to get graded, all of them, no matter what condition they're in. I think the rest of them would depend on condition but I could see the HoJos and a few others having demand from team/player collectors.

I thought it was the white courtesy telephone? I think my teachers in my middle/high school days (mid to late 90s) all had one in their classrooms (or you could call them bullpen phones, for obvious reasons).

I'm a buyer, even if it's not in as nice of condition as my other

Good luck with the cards.
I think this is what I will do. I just wish the previous owner would have stored them with a little more care, but c'est la vie.
@bobsbbcards do you have any interest in any of these? Op, I'm going to direct some folks to you - hopefully you'll get some business. Good luck!
Hi, OP, I want a shot your best conditioned Bonds or two. Let me know how to get in touch with you about a purchase.

Awesome! I appreciate it
@RiceBondMntna2Young I will PM you.
I see there are no Cardinals in the bunch. I have the entire team set but I would have been interested in extras. The Ozzie Smith cost me a pretty penny. Congratulations and good luck with them.

Did I read that right? 4 copies of #96 Ripken? Wowza... Do you mind posting a pic of those?
Larkin looks legit from the pic.
Let me get a little dinner down and I will post the Ripkins.
@tunahead08 here are the Ripkins.
Well looks like you may be sitting on a couple grand worth of these cards depending on what some of them grade out at which is a nice little find.
Have you found anything else cool in the 2500 cards?
If you don't mind us asking what did you roughly pay for the 2500 cards?
@brendanb438 Honestly, I stopped paying attention to the other cards once I found out what I had with these. As many cards as there are, I'm sure there are others, just got stalled on these. I gave $100 for all of it. I honestly didn't think there was this many of them and definitely didn't expect to find anything like these.
Any chance there were some 1990 Donruss Blue/White tests in that collection as well?
Not that I remember seeing. That being said, once I found the aqueous test and realized what they were the other cards got pushed to the side. I still have to go back through them again.
Yeah you definitely have a good find with those!
Drooling on the Ripkens... nice haul!
Thank you sir!
I'd also be interested in this Larkin if you're not interested LarkinCollector.
I'm a Larkin collector too, but this aqueous Test has alluded me. Oilmen, if LarkinCollector hasn't bought it yet I'd be VERY interested.
@DeadGuyCardboard I haven't sold it as of yet. My plan is to send it in to PSA and have it graded along with the Ripkens, the Bonds, the Alomar, the Trammell and the Sandberg before selling them. I was thinking about putting one or two of the lesser cards on eBay Sunday just to get a feel for the market right now. I will have to decide which ones though. Was thinking about the Howard Johnsons.
@Oilman2383 Makes sense. If you search 1990 Donruss Aqueous Test oneBay and then search sold listings that will give you a fair idea of market price. I'd be glad to take the Larkin off your hands for a premium if or when you do sell.
welcome to the forum
I was just looking to find it a good home, not hoard them, so if you're interested I'll bow out.
Finally, the KING of the welcome wagon speaks!
I have decided to go ahead and list the Larkin on eBay as my first run. Seems to be several people interested in it. It will be posted in about 10 minutes. Good Luck All!
I have to see this! Thanks for the heads up.
I can't find it.
Andy
I just read the help section and apparently it can take up to 24 hours for it to show up in the search results. May be better to wait a bit.
I see it now. Good luck with the auction.
If you happen to find a Greenwell of this aqueous variety that you missed along the way, kindly PM me.
Andy
Will do!
Is anyone else troubled by Arthur talking about his loins?
Good luck on your grades and with your auctions! I still need to upgrade 11 of these bad boys (going for PSA 7+).

Well then don't bring up 1990 Donruss. It's not my fault. The heart wants what the heart wants.
