It does look plausible that it's an upgraded 65.
A PCGS MS65RD was sold by Bowers-Morena in January 1996 and it's no longer in the census. Anyone have the Jan 1996 BM catalog to check?
I could live with that coin in a 66 holder. No major distractions. Nice color. I would guess an upgrade as the discovery of such would have made headlines.

I have the BM Set Shahbabian, M.D., catalog from January 26 1996, where lot 1130, the 1969-S MS65RD PCGS, sold for $16,500. It's tricky trying to compare a nice Trueview with a 23-year-old, enlarged-but-still-small black and white photo; nonetheless, I believe the hits on the 66RD coin above, on columns 1 and 2 of the Lincoln Memorial, would show up in the older photo. And none of the small identifiers in the BM coin seem to appear on the 66RD. Nor is the diagonal mark through the steps on the 66RD visible on the Shahbabian coin. I believe they are different coins.

I would have to disagree, the hits on the columns and steps combined with the carbon spots on the obv do not equal a grade of 66 in my opinion. Granted we are viewing a much enlarged photo which makes those marks more obvious, but still.
