Lacrosse cards

The community of lacrosse card collectors is not a large one, but just in case there are any here on CU... I was frustrated with the lack of info on what has been printed over the years, so I began working with another collector to document all of the lacrosse cards ever produced. The result is the following website that I am putting together. We are continuing to add to it as we discover new cards, acquire scans, etc. If you have any info or lacrosse cards of your own, please feel free to reach out to me. At a minimum I would love to know more collectors!
Thanks, Todd
Todd Tobias - Grateful Collector - I focus on autographed American Football League sets, Fleer & Topps, 1960-1969, and lacrosse cards.

Hi Todd. I am actually working on C59, C60, and C61 now. Trying to learn about the teams and history of lacrosse in the early 1900s. Tough to do, but enjoyable. Just got back from Championship weekend - an annual pilgrimage almost.
Site is a good starting resource. Thanks for putting it together - but I did think there were more recent sets put out for the pro leagues.
Chris
Hey Chris,
Championship weekend must have been a blast! I swear I will get out there one year.
I know that there is a new MLL set coming out this year that is being produced by Parkside, but I am unaware of anything else. But this is very much a "build as I learn" type of thing, so if you have info, please send it along.
Congrats on those C sets. I haven't tackled them yet. All of the single card images on the site are mine, as are a number of team and all of the company sets. I'm also trying to learn the history of the game, but you're right, it isn't easy.
Awesome website! There are single cards issued by the Japanese manufacturer BBM in some of their multi sport sets. Several over their past ~5 years...mailt of female players.
Wow! I had no idea! Can you link to to info and/or images? Thanks!!
Hi Todd,
I love seeing the lacrosse stuff (former collegiate laxer here).
Gotta love the pre-war multi-sport athletes like Tommy Burns (boxer), Edouard Lalonde (hockey) and Joe Malone (hockey).
On your single-card vintage checklist on that website, there are some backside variations to be added. For 1901 Wills #43, should also be Bird's Eye and Three Castles variations. Another card that needs its back variations specified is the 1936 A.W. Allen Ltd Sports & Flags of Nations #5. They are available with the following:
Cure-'Em-Quick Back
Irish Moss Back
Q-T Fruit Drops Back
Steam Rollers Back
For some unknown reason, PSA has not yet been specifying the type of back variation when grading the cards from the 1936 Allen set, but I'd hope they would do so soon, as it would be consistent practice with what they do with pretty much all similar pre-war cards.
Amazing work you've done on that site so far!
BTW, I've always wished SI for Kids had made cards of Paul & Gary Gait back when the magazine first started up. Now those would have been great items to get!
Thank you! I will add notes about the back variations to those single card pages. Are you a lacrosse card collector as well? Seems you know a fair bit about them!
Thanks, Todd
Thank you! Any chance of forwarding that info on to the specs dept. at work too?
I'll try to find some time to dig those cards out and scan them for you (though no promises on how soon that will happen)
Passively. I've only got about 20 or so and I don't really pursue them, but they do sometimes happen to accumulate by accident
Sure, I can pass that info along.
Thanks!!
Here's two of the different 36 Allen Backs ...
Thank you! I've yet to add the Allen's lacrosse card to my collection, so I haven't yet built a specific page for the card. But when I do (or obtain a scan), I will certainly add the info and scans.
Until I do get to finding and scanning those, here are links I found that you may want to use to borrow some images and text:

One more for you to add to your singles list, the Sportscaster. I've seen it printed in three versions so far: North America-Italy, French and UK. I assume there is a North America-Japan version too. I do not know for sure whether or not it was included in the Italian, German, Finnish, Swedish, Belgian or Dutch versions.

Japan versions are only for the first 7 decks, so there shouldn't be one of this card (deck 10).
Made me want to look up a similar set, and sure enough, here you go, one to add from Panarizon (though here again, I'm not sure whether the parallel Japan version exists for this card too?)

That's incredible! Thank you so much for the info and effort! How much do these kinds of cards typically sell for? I don't think I've ever seen any of them before.
Commons are about $0.50 and the autos and parallels are $20-$50. Some of the harder autos like the Polaroids are well over $100. Would love to see BBM do an all lacrosse set someday.
I was wondering why they did cards of Los Angeles International Airport.
Hey there Todd,
I happened to notice the listing for this Lalonde card
https://ebay.com/itm/303510627699?ul_noapp=true
and looking at the seller's other items, he has quite a few more lacrosse cards and sets too that don't seem to be on your checklist compiled on your website. Thought you'd be interested:

Thank you very much. I see few things that I can use!
Todd, here are front and back scans of a recent acquisition of mine, which is another one you can add to your lacrosse card site.
1959 Chocolates Torras, S.A. - Viajando Por America Del Norte - #32 Lacrosse
The scans show up huge, but the cards in this set measure 3 3/8" x 2 1/4"
This is from a set from a legit mid-range company in Spain, and the cards were issued in packs with intention to be pasted into a collection album. PSA does grade this set, including the Ted Williams cards and the golf card. For some unknown reason though, if you click the link to see the population report after searching for the title, the set says 404 Error - Not found?

@miwlvrn
That's fantastic! I've never seen it before, thank you! I will grab the scans and add the info to my site.
Is this a rare card/set? Price range? I've love to pick one up for my own collection. Thanks again!
I will also look into the pop report issue.
Thanks Todd, I appreciate that and am interested to hear when the pop report has been restored.
I got this lacrosse card from a guy in Spain who has sold me a lot of other items there. I'll ask him if he has another or if he can find one. Most of the items in this set besides the Ted Williams ones are not very expensive, but some are easier to find than others. Most of the time, they are either glued into an album, or have been removed from the album after having been glued in. The tricky part is finding them without back side damage.
Edit to add: well that's funny. Now when I click the links I pasted in above, instead of the set showing up with the graded cards being specified, you can no longer see any info about that set on the pop report webpage. What happened?
For reference, I will post scans of one of the other graded cards from this set:
Todd, any idea what's up with the pop report for this set?
Hi. Our IT department told me that the set was removed from the pop, but they were unsure as to why. I'm sorry I don't have any further info to give. They do look like pretty interesting cards.
OK, thanks Todd. Do you know if that means they will still be willing to grade cards from that set?
I came across this link and thought of you @AFLfan

Cool that they made it, but surprising there are so few cards in the set.
Thank you! I've got some of these sets already and have completed the auto insert set also.
Covid forced it to be a really small set. Parkside is a niche card company that produced their first lacrosse set in 2019 and makes really nice stuff. I'm three cards shy of completing their 2019 master set with all inserts, etc. I am hoping that they come to a deal to produce PLL cards this year.
What a really cool thread. Wish that I could stray from my narrow baseball card mindset and into a project like this would present, but I’m hopeless. Fun read to follow along guys, thanks for sharing.

Hello everyone,
I am new here and I was hoping that someone could tell me what I have. The card is from 1878 and it looks like a trade or greeting card of a lacrosse game.
This card was in a box of papers that I have from that time period. Some papers are in very good shape while others are not. This card has issues as you can see. Just so you know the white on the front of the card can most likely be removed by someone who knows what they are doing. It's the envelope that is stuck to it.
There is....
The photos of the card can be found here....

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you,

Decided to pick up this 1935 Jean-Donat Dupont Indiana-Cow-Boy #17 Jeu de Balle (Lacrosse) card. Todd, please add this one to your lacrosse database website (as well as the 1959 Chocolates Torras, S.A. - Viajando Por America Del Norte - #32 Lacrosse one too) ?
