Well... If he did not ask, he may have missed an opportunity.... I bet if Mr. Shepard had asked around, they could have found a dozen cents from 1922 squirreled away in some vault.....Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained...Cheers, RickO
Cool piece of history. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder why he was writing to the Fire Control Design Section in Philly.
I knew it would happen.
Was 1950 around the time the "no D" was getting wide publicity? Seems like he was looking to score.
There are several other requests for 1922-D cents in this small volume. All the letters are dated between Jan 1 and June 17, 1930.
Here's a list of some items of interest in this presscopy volume. Members can download the file from NNP for free. (PDF page numbers might be "off" by a couple of numbers - in my copy I removed duplicate pages and replaced the cover page with a more accurate one.)

502 sounds amusing!
The flooring vendor had material in tan, but the Denver mint wanted dark green so that gold would be more readily visible. PDF page is attached.
I once bought in a group of Uncirculated S-mint silver dollars, one each 1921 to 1928, along with the shipping order from the SF Mint dated somewhere in 1928 or 1929. The price was face value plus shipping. If the mints had them, they filled collector orders.
