Hansen is not even close to being the top Liberty Nickel collector. Forsythe picked up the top MS and PR sets, as well as the 1913 and then improved upon them.
Sure is a beautiful coin.... though the price is far beyond what I would expect. Of course, collectors with deep pockets are the one's that build these amazing sets of coins... Cheers, RickO
There was no bidding war. It opened and closed at the reserve.
You have to look at every coin today. Was the coin a bit expensive? Yes. Maybe by $5,000.00. Guess what, when you are building the all time #1 set and you don't want any coming close-you buy it. That is a huge neg the registry game has created.

It’s interesting how many collections start with the hardest piece.
Mr Forsythe has given me some tall orders. We only started updating this set a month ago after we bought it earlier this year. He does not want any one approaching his rankings.
I know the other one is available but I liked this one better. This is Mr Forsthyes 18th #1 set according to what PCGS told us).
Are the 18 #1 sets current sets or do they include past sets? I went through the registry set awards and didn’t see anyone with that many current sets. Still very impressive.
When these great sets are put together is there any documentation put together to memorialize the set? There is if you go through a major auction house but I’m wondering if great sets have another alternative for great documentation with photos?
PCGS said that to me 2 days ago about the sets. I don't look.
The Liberty Nickels MS+PR will be on display by PCGS at ANA-as will be the 1913 5C.
I stopped chasing this top pop crap. Take a look at my proof nickels. Ten years ago more than half we’re top pop. Now some are crazy numbers like 3/8!!!
Some years have held their ground but for the most part I will most likely end up selling these all for a loss. Guess I’ll find out in 20 years if I’m still alive 😲

Laura has mentioned new dealers are very focused on the crackout game which may have led to increasing pops. Think of all the energy and expertise going into this vs. other things for a new generation.
