in less than 2 months it's lost over $100, and is back in the $800-ish area

Everything seems weak lately. Silver can't even hold $15 lately. Good time to buy a little... >:)

There are those in the Coin Forum who think the internal combustion engine will soon be toast...…...really?

As more and more cars go electric look for platinum prices to continue downward. The NCLT platinum coins are just pretty pieces of bullion with a thin collector base so don't expect "numismatic premium" to be of much help for owners of the NCLT platinum coins.

It's quite possible that a bunch of assets are going to experience a price correction. Que' sera, sera.

While I am aware that platinum is used in the catalytic converters, I did not think a projected demise in internal combustion engines would be significant enough to affect the PM market.... Cheers, RickO

The gold-platinum spread just passed $500 - again!
    Gold $1292.
    Platinum $790.
Even if platinum fades as an industrial metal, it should still maintain some value as a PM.

    I wish the bid-ask spread wasn't $50...

Platinum ETFs likely have a closer spread.

Part of platinum's value as a precious metal derives from non-industrial uses such as jewelry and investment demand.

I don't see the hype. Jewelry and investment demand has been around for decades, and platinum doesn't get anywhere near the publicity that gold and silver does.

Platinum is used in a lot of other non automotive industries.

While platinum is stuck at $790, gold is on a tear at $1305, just passed palladium ($1304).
