rawteam1, I have to ask you.... are you in anyway involved with Bob the gold buyer? Or have information on the their process? You sure do seem to have an overly strong response to all postings asking questions about this operation.

As for me having 'some nerve'.... ??? For asking questions or trying to find out if a scam is taking place or if the process is a legit and reasonable? Again, your responses are very puzzling to me. I am merely trying to find out what the situation is, as it is a mode of gold buying that I am not familiar with... just trying to understand it and how it works.

The 'research' I mentioned is not really research at all... just a quick look up on line and all easily accessible on public sites. All accessible to anyone at any time. But to please you, and hopefully help calm your agitated nerves, I will considerately delete the posts that you seem to find 'have some nerve'. :/

I don’t see what the big deal with this is...
Let’s say someone brings $1000 of gold: pays $900, church gets $60 and he gets $40. That’s more than fair for the seller.
Let’s say someone brings $1000 of gold: pays $800, church gets $120 and he gets $80. Still think that’s fair and better than going to a pawn shop etc.

I would suggest that buyers who pay $800 or less for $1000 worth of gold border on taking advantage of an unknowing seller.

If this discussion was on the US coin forum and concerned US collector coins, how many posters would support this type of buyer?

The "CASH 4 GOLD" places and the "WE BUY GOLD" places are not as generous as you believe. :D

Are there still open coin shops? If so, then yes, we still support this type of buyer.

Ok, so I did check out his buying operation today. He was buying gold cuff links and other jewelry from a lady, gave her around $325. He said how much he would be giving the church.

I brought some silver stuff, he offered $15 for two ounces in silver of silverware according to him. I brought a certified Morgan dollar graded MS63, he looked it up on his Greysheet and said he is the wrong person to sell coins to as he would be at melt, that he regarded all precious metals as "melt" value items. He offered $10 on the Morgan. I asked him about gold coins, he said he treats them as "melt" items too and sounds like he pays around 50% of melt value. He said you would do better going to a coin buyer or you could google someone and they would probably pay shipping to them, which many people will not do.

Also on what he got and what the church got he made it sound like due to the fact the church is getting a hefty share of the money, he can only pay so much. He seemed like a nice guy, said it was tough getting a gold buying license which the town requires.

Edited to add, the lady had some small diamonds with the gold pieces which he did not pay a premium for.

that's enough for me. not a bad guy because of this, but not something the church need be supporting.

And I'm sure he pays his taxes on this business; which goes to show that though businesses may be legal they aren't necessarily ethical.

Taxes are not ethical or moral just the state robbing you at the point of a gun

That’s lower than what I think a church should endorse. Plenty of buyers that could come to a church event and pay 80% while still making a profit and giving to charity.

logger7, thanks for your update, and letting others be aware of this. Pretty much what I was expecting. I think your post says it all.

Confirmed scumbag, sad to hear the church supports such robbery but then again the church is usually about money so shouldn't come as a shock. Do the right thing and get that shyster the hell out of there before he robs another.

The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

It's not my job and I have no authority to fire him from what he is doing.

Possible solutions would be to report it to relevant authorities, the Diocese Bishop or legal arm of the church; and/or a state government authority on a possible conflict of interest.

Deflection? rawteam1, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about now. Nor do I really care.

I found out all what I wanted to know about Bob the gold buyer... business name, location, individuals name; anyone else who wants to know also only needs to spend 10-15 minutes online to find out the relevant info. Though I think most on here already have the operation pretty well figured out.
