How does this work? (Ebay shenanigans)
So apparently it's possible to make the list picture different than any pictures actually in the listing...
The picture in search results:
and in the listing:

Maybe I don't sell enough on ebay, but how is this possible? I've seen it before too.

Looks like an ebay glitch. Same seller sold the MS-65 coin shown on May 10th. May have used the sell similar feature to list, ebays system is still seeing the old photo. Seller only has 2 photos in current listing. Very good chance seller doesn't know it is displaying wrong and would have no way to change it other than end and relist.

I made a mistake like this not long ago. I used the 'sell similar' feature for a coin and forgot to update the images- I had actually photographed the coin for the new listing and the images were ready to go, but I never realize that they weren't in the new listing. The buyer contacted me upon receipt of the coin I sold to say it didn't match the photos. Since it was inexpensive and a duplicate I told him to keep it and refunded his money.
Interesting, ebay must store the thumbnail image independently of the listing images.

APMEX does it all the time.
It's the new thing.
Why bother taking a picture of your blue car for sale.
Insert file photo...It's all the same.

Well now... even though it could be an error, one must be very careful....Cheers, RickO
Well it certainly got me to click on it, so if used as a click-bait tactic, it works. It's just strange to me that the thumbnail image has no connection to the actual images in the listing.
I've seen where someone used a beautiful trueview image as the thumbnail for a "BU" and upon clicking there were only pictures of an AU-at-best example. In that case I'm fairly sure it was done intentionally.

I’ve had this eBay “timing glitch” before. I listed something but noticed I didn’t pick the correct first picture. After editing, it looks fine on my account. However, after logging out and searching for the item, the old picture still showed up in the search results. When clicking on the listing, the new picture is displayed. Usually this glitch will go away within a short time.
