Suggestion for a new term for "Mechanical Errors"

MWallaceMWallace Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭✭✭

I started a thread here about the term "Mechanical Errors".

https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1019178/question-about-mechanical-errors

Where I work, if the rank and file make a mistake, we are chided for it, no matter how minor. If management make a mistake, it's called an "Unplanned Event".

I think "Unplanned Event" would be a great replacement for "Mechanical Error". :D

Anytime I hear the term “mechanical doubling” I think the correct term should be mechanical damage.

"Unintentional Feature" is what we used to call it in the software field.

I'd probably use an old military acronym instead: FUBAR.

I spent much of the past week waiting long hours in airports due to flight delays because of "technical issues." Perhaps PCGS could adopt that phrase.

Do they all use the term "Mechanical errors"? Who used it first?

Just another attempt to dignify mistakes, instead of implementing proper quality control points. Cheers, RickO

"Mechanical error" makes it sound like there was an equipment malfunction rather than human error.

Most error I see or mistakes. I call the human factor or Non value added waste. Can we call improperly cleaned coins HF and leave the space for a useful sticker.

Calling mistakes on the label a "Mechanical Error" never sounds right to me.

It's just a simple "typo" to me.

    How about simply, “input error”?

I’ve had a Mech Error fixed. The slab was cracked (interestingly, could not feel the crack’s edges). Made a call, sent an email with pic, received a RMA and return postage/insurance label paid by our host. Received a newly re-slabbed coin.

As for myself, they can call it whatever they want. As long as I get any issues fixed/corrected I am good-to-go and then on to another coin adventure (purchase). :)
