American Silver and Gold Eagle redesign?

Could the US Mint redesign the ASE and AGE? Article from Coin World:
coinworld:Mint officials considering new designs for American Eagles
The U.S. Mint could be introducing new designs for the American Eagle silver and gold bullion coins for the first time in more than 30 years if approval being sought from Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is granted.
...
The contemplated initiative was publicly disclosed March 27 by U.S. Mint Director David J. Ryder near the end of remarks delivered during the American Numismatic Association National Money Show banquet in Pittsburgh. Any changes in designs, whether obverse, reverses or both, would have to be approved by the Treasury secretary, Ryder said. Ryders's presentation was videoed by Rick Snow from Eagle Eye Rare Coins, Tucson, Arizona.

These are bullion coins, not collector coins. They're produced in vast quantities, and are commonly accumulated for investment or inflation-hedging purposes. The recognized existing classic designs are among the best the U.S. has ever produced, and easily identify them as U.S. bullion pieces.
I see no reason to mess with the designs.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I hope they leave them the way they are.

I don’t know how I feel about this.

Whatever is done, please do not select any designs approved by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee who actually has people that do not like classic coin designs and have said so in written meeting minutes, and are only interested in truly terrible consensus, group think, politically correct designs like a few recent commemoratives.
If it is not broken, don't fix it with something worse.
And please eliminate the burnished versions of bullion coins. No need for so many variants of the same thing.

I don't like the current "Family of Eagles" design used on the reverse of all Gold Eagles.
The other designs are ok, but somewhat "tired".
If it were up to me, I'd change them all.
I agree that they are easily recognizable and popular as-is for bullion purposes. Still I wonder, if the US Mint changed the design every year, would it increase sales? Other countries (like Australia and China) do change their bullion designs every year and those have become popular among both stackers and collectors.
I said, "If it is not broken, don't fix it with something worse."
I would be happy if the Mint changed the designs to something better. Please submit some ideas to them, as most all your designs would be significantly better than many recent Congress and Treasury approved ones.

Leave 'em be.
I do like their predecessor, the American Art gold series.

Agree. CCAC obfuscate’s the design process.
Leave the obverse alone.
The Canadian Mint has done a reasonable job on the anticounterfeiting issue, so I could tolerate some type of modification along those lines as long as the design aesthetics aren't affected.
I agree with Goldminers, don't let the CCAC anywhere near the design process.
I knew it would happen.
I would truly welcome real art added to the reverse of the AGE's....The family of eagles just seems too 'cluttered' to me....I like the ASE designs....Either way, please commission an artist and eliminate 'design selection/approval' by committee....Cheers, RickO
I can't wait to see what politically correct nonsense that they come up with.

I prefer round ones.

Lets redesign the dime instead.

A lot of good feedback above.
Personally, I was never a fan of the gold reverse, BUT. I think that general subject is mandated by law. So. they can give us a different family of eagles, but we are stuck with the concept.
As for other nations, most keep a common obverse and only change the reverse so there is some continuity.
This is what you get when overpaid posers invade. Market is not so much about the look as it is about meaning. Traditions matter and can leave the 10 second ooh aah to the comm market. Keep the line same. Agree on security improvements but not core design changes.

Even classic designs can get stale after a while. Totally in favor of this. I just hope they turn out decent.
I agree, dcarr. I think St. Gaudens original eagle would be a nice change for the reverse leaving the obverse alone.
