Note to self.......Don't use a chop saw to free a Dime from a slab.......GOOD NEWS..Wife found coin!

I used to use a table saw with no problem, but sold it and a lot of other tools off. Anyway the saw grabbed the slab from my hand threw it against the wall and across to the other side of the shed. I found the insert ring, but alas it was empty. Somewhere in my 12X8 shed is a Roosevelt Dime DDO & DDR FS-101 anacs VF20. I have a bad hand and back and the shed is full of junk so for now the coin is a goner. Glad I did not spend much on it. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
I KNOW STUPID IS STUPID DOES!!!! Let me have it!

A couple taps on the edge with a hammer is all you need.
Lol
Put in vise like its flat on a table, Crack in vise, turn 90°, crack again and separate.

I wouldn't call you stupid but I did give you a LOL.
Maybe we need a SOL and that's Stupid Out Loud!
This works well but wrap it in a cloth to keep plastic shards from flying.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
These are pretty good but pieces still go flying so wear your safety squints.

Be safe.

the saying is so well ingrained in my mind I read your post as "it's all fun and games until someone loses a dime." lol
.
Very sorry to hear that Jon. Those table saws can be mean.
Don't play with them like that, you'll put your eye out.
Oh,,,yeah, you need to get a bigger shed, maybe 40 X 60.
I'm sure you will find that dime someday!
R.I.P. Bear
Only bad part is you didn't video it to share with us
I also use a hammer. A couple of soft taps on the side is pretty much all you need to do.
Don’t be hard on yourself my brother. We all make mistakes. Believe it or not I even made a mistake once😂
Wait your Wife found the dime in the shed or you found your Wife in the shed?
I told my wife what I had done. She said don't worry honey....I'll find it. Ten minutes later she came back with the Dime. She's great.....I owe her a steak dinner!
Table saw always worked fine. This was a chop saw........NEVER AGAIN!!
You gave her the opportunity to prove how good she is - she owes YOU a steak dinner.

I’m the guy that gets to clean up, stitch up, pin together, cut off, and otherwise sort out fingers & hands from little adventures like this. If you’re over 40 and you mangle a finger with power tools the biggest decision is usually the appropriate level of amputation. Want to see some photos??
Truthfully though, I’m glad you found your wife.
Was there any damage visible on your dime? Why did you decide to crack it out?

I'm a Carpenter,
Held slab in hand and attempted to 'cut' with a chainsaw?
Dude , you are lucky you don't work for me...

Needs to be in PCGS holder.
Dude......chop saw......not chainsaw.
A band saw would be ideal.

Dude, just as bad.
My BIGGEST fear everyday at work is losing a finger.
At this point I'm not sure if you understand the severity of this?

Can't you send it in to PCGS as a "cross at any grade" or will a raw coin do better at PCGS?

Glad to hear you found your wife.... was the dime damaged at all?
Anyone know how the TPGs do this? They’ve gotta have some safe, insanely quick way to do it.
Yes, I might need to get one just for this.
Dime was fine....no damage anywhere.
I bet this would work well too, and not as expensive or as large as a band saw.

What the heck is a chop saw?
Raw will probably do better......plus to cross it would have to be a separate submission which would be more money.
Hard to describe. It's like a radial arm saw only on a pivot instead of sliding back and forth.
A versatile tool used for crosscutting material, ie wood,
This tool will also remove a finger or three in the blink of an eye...

Glad you found it. I was wondering if you'd need to invite some dime collectors to have a dime hunt party and invite Hansen
Dimeman, What Roosevelt would you be cracking in a VF20 slab? That’s a horrible grade!
Later, Paul.

You should get a metal detector and take your wife with you and hunt for coins. She surely has the touch to find coins.
It's DDO & DDR FS-101 not many around in any grade!
Chop saw...

Very handy, but not for coins.... even those in less than desirable plastic
Don’t kill yourself!
Glad you found your dime. Count your blessings.
Does this mystery coin have a date/MM?
Later, Paul.
Have to agree with the vise and hammer. Would never attempt with a chop saw!
Never put a circular saw blade in a concrete cutter.

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. NGC slabs are really easy, heck just look at um mean and they crack wide open.. Its almost as if the coins don't want to be there
Agreed. And NEVER cut anything small without securely clamping it down. One's fingers can be pulled into the blade faster than one could say the 'f' word! Happy to hear the op is okay, and am sure he learned a lesson from the College of Hard Knocks.
Dude , you are lucky you don't work for me...
I would add, dude, you are lucky you didn't cut your hand off...
Use a Dremel tool with a cutting bit to saw into slab to remove coin. Clamp the slab to side of work bench with C clamp. Wear protective eyewear. Brush or blow away plastic from the cutting as you go. Be sure and take your time. Impatience is not your friend here. Be ready with a saflip to put coin into when its ready to come out of the slab. You'll know when that moment arrives.
The Dremeled slab looks very nice, sans the coin, when done with the job. Empty Dremeled slabs are very collectible. Not only that, the Dremeled slab with its insert is proof that the coin you have removed from the slab once enjoyed a TPG grade.
Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
