if anyone wants to get a big-ticket item and save a chunk, let me know. maybe leave some of the bucks on the table as an incentive. only takes around a $700 item to max out $100 on bucks. just send a message.

I have not had an eBay Bucks offer at all this year. I used to get them all the time. I called eBay to ask why, they told me they would look into it. The customer service rep told me that because I was a member since 2002 and for the inconvenience of not receiving any offers this year, they gave me a $25.00 eBay Bucks promo to use on anything. At least they are trying. And as usual, this one does not work for me either.

    No worky.

But, If you have the ebay 10% app ebucks coupon, PM me for 5 % off my BIN prices (while the coupon is valid) making it 15% :)

  • DCWDCW Posts: 7,567 ✭✭✭✭✭

Nowadays, you need the damned Ebay bucks just to offset the sale tax they collect.

I use to get offers all the time. Then 2018 came and not one single bucks promotion for me... until 2019. Today I have a 10% that expires tomorrow. The bucks help a bit towards funding my hobby. But as mentioned, nowadays they barely cover taxes...

Create a second eBay account and that will probably end your dry spell. It completely within eBay's terms of service to do so and I regularly get selling promotions or coupons or different eBay buck promotions between my two accounts.

Actually, having eBay bucks on multiple accounts is against their terms. [Although I do. LOL.] They've never cracked down on it.

Do they usually do a 15% deal at the same time another deal is going on? Seems like a lot of us got the 8-10%, and no one got the 15%.

This code can't be applied. You can only use it via: eBay app for iPhone,
eBay app for Android, eBay app for iPad.

    1%, 8%, 10%, 15% ......

Does not really matter when you max out at $500 ebucks every quarter :)

  • coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭✭✭

they only do the 15 percent once a year, guess I have to wait until next year

  • Aspie_RoccoAspie_Rocco Posts: 3,350 ✭✭✭✭✭

Does anyone else see the ebucks promotions as just a modern gimmick to increase spending. I caught myself feeling like I HAD to use the offer, a dangerous psychology! What was once normal has become an occasional gift. There is not really an incentive, since ebucks are just like a partial refund or rebate of our own money.
Yes it benefits big sellers who buy on eBay, like errors, but for most of us regular users... meh

  • coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭✭✭

your not always going to come out on top buying during the bonus bucks. I have lost money on a few things, but for the most part you will do ok buying on a promo as well as the 15 percent off everything

Really? You'd be just as likely to buy 500 $100 coins at 1% as you would be to by 50 $100 coins at 10%?

    Yes. Depending on the price.

    Can't it be both?

Obviously, it's a marketing gimmick for eBay.

I don't think I've ever kept one thing I bought during bucks promos. I use it to buy bullion as far back of melt as I can get. I sell the bullion as close to melt as I can get. Then I use the bucks to do the same. Typically, I end up getting $250 in cash out of the $500 quarterly bonus and then another 1.8% of whatever I spent as cashback on my credit card.

    Yes. Depending on the price.

The price is $100 and they are the same coins in both cases. You can have $50 of them at $90 or 500 of them at $99.

Now, if you routinely spend $50,000 per quarter on eBay, you are correct. You'll max out at the $500 without ever getting a bonus. But most of us don't spend $50,000 per quarter. So, either your original post lacks understanding of who you are talking to, or you just want to brag about spending $50,000 per quarter.

All the coins I buy are unique.

As an example, last weekend I bought a couple of high priced BIN's instantly with the premonition that an ebay ebucks promo is due.

Why, because securing those UNIQUE coins were more important than the extra 9%.

When the promo hit and I was locked and loaded to go after the higher priced BIN's on my watchlist. I made many offers in the last couple of days :)

Dude, it was hypothetical. And develop some empathy.

By the way, all coins could be argued to be "unique" since they each have subtle differences.

I'm glad you love your errors. Hobbies should be fun. Personally, I put errors right up there with Chinese counterfeits and doctored coins. How many of the really odd ones are Mint workers screwing around? I mean, how many loose screws are floating around the Minting equipment? LOL

No offense. Just my personal feeling. I'm highly suspicious of a lot of the errors. And, frankly, some of the others like fused aggregates strike me as "stolen" errors that should have just been melted rather than smuggled out of the Mint.

Well, your suspicions would be wrong for 99.7% of mint errors IMO.

So in your opinion, I collect junk and stolen material, how nice :o

  • JBKJBK Posts: 16,252 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have started doing what someone mentioned here once - I add certain listings (BINs, not auctions) to my cart. These are things I want to buy at some point, and when a good promo comes along I go to my cart and pull the trigger on what I want.

I also use the watch list but mine has gotten so big that it is counterproductive at times.

I also try to remember to go into eBay via eBates, but coins are rarely included in any promotions they have going. I occasionally get an unexpected 1 or 2% though.
