I think you guys may be converting me to PSA

remedylaneremedylane Posts: 330 ✭✭✭

Yep. I'm the sgc guy.. But since joining this forum I've bought several PSA cards. I just sent a batch out to SGC for grading but I think my next submission will be to PSA.

My 48 leaf boxing set that I'm working on was all SGC Graded and had planned to keep it that way. Last week I bought a PSA graded 48 leaf card. Heck, SGC changed their labels and nothing is uniform now anyways.

Then today I got my PSA 10 zeke rookie in. And wow. It's gorgeous. It has a mojo about it.

PSA has the best slab presentation in my opinion. The famous red outline. A beautiful frame for a beautiful piece of art.🖼

It's the rated rookie designation. That's always given me that special feeling. Plus it's Zeke

I was an SGC guy, too. First they moved to Florida and I figured I'd split the mailings between the two. Then came some unacceptable turnaround times and finally I was also bothered by the flip change. I don't care for the new one and their registry and pop report has kind of collapsed since the new flip and website launched. I found myself calling to remind them to add my cards to the pop report and it became too much work for me. They do nice work, grading wise, and they really can make some cards pop a bit more in the holder but at the end of the day they're the easiest slabs to tamper with/crack open (even worse, often undamaged), the insert has potential for problems and the market seems to prefer PSA and I slab mainly for maximum valuation and ease of sale (in case for me OR for my children/grandchildren, hopefully).

I haven't subbed with them in quite some time.

Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

Yes, things like that also have started to bother me as well. I do also think that some cards, look better in the sgc slab. But for all the reasons you have mentioned I'm also becoming a convert.

It's such a good looking card. I'm going to grab the Dak version too.

I have Dak but need Zeke. I like the color variations as well. Great looking cards for sure.

Which Dak and Zeke rookies are the ones to have ? Not the insert , 1/1 retracting prism chocolate coated scratch and sniff version. Just the base version. You know, kinda like the 89 score is the troy to have and the 1990 score is the emmitt to have.

SGC guy here. I have always liked their slabs. I don't like the new flips. Bad design. Its sad, I have some nice SGC cards for sale at great prices, and no one is interested.

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

when i started buying graded it was BGS. then I decided I liked the black gasket of SGC, however, for the last 6-7 years or so it has been strictly PSA for me. the future value for myself or my heirs selling in years to come is just significantly better with PSA.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I see the new SGC label as the second pic

Agreed lmao. I felt like they should have given you the option on which label you wanted.

I don't really have a favorite holder. I do like the SGC Black and I guess I'm the only one who actually likes the new SGC grading scale. I really like the 9.5 Grade and the few examples I have seen looked like they rightly deserved the 9.5 grade (as in somewhere between a PSA 9 and PSA 10).

Someday, I think people will search and be willing to pay more for SGC 9.5's over the same card in PSA 9.

I do realize that given the same numerical grades, PSA always seems to realize the highest prices. But that could change if SGC adheres to strict grading standards and assigns appropriate grades.

I can count on one had the amount of SGC graded cards I own. I like the black background and although I think they are a little more lenient on some grades than PSA, I don't have a major issue with their grading. It's the new flips.....they are God awful. I'm hoping whoever approved the design for those...and the person that designed them, both get their lunches stolen in the breakroom every day.
