Heritage random bids

Didn't end up bidding on anything in the Heritage sale, but received a post-auction summary email that seem to show rather strong bids on 2 consecutive lots (cap and rays). Luckily both were outbid. Not a great feeling knowing I could have been on the hook for over $3000

Going to reach out to them to see what's going on and what channel these bids came from (internet, heritage live, floor) as I change all my passwords. Anyone had this happen before?

Both seem to have been half increment below the final sale price. Perhaps max bids going into the live session with someone winning them with cut bids.

    Roman,

I think you'll find that your bids were off increment while the winning bids were full increment. You may have held the high bid when they went live and the winner submitted a "whole" increment higher bid that was not challenged.

I think he is saying that he did not bid in the first place

This is kind of scary; hopefully just a terrible software glitch. I think it’s wise of you to change your passwords, but there’s a good chance that it’s not because you were hacked.

Assuming nothing intentionally improper by the auction house ... long ago they sent out catalogs with the client names and addresses mismatched. Maybe this was like that previous incident whereby a bonafide event went askew.

I'm not ruling anything out, but i'm thinking a software glitch, as well. I was watching the auction live while on the train home and my connection would drop every few minutes and would re-connect shortly after. All those reestablished sessions between my phone and Heritage Live must've created some weirdness. I'll see if Heritage says the bids were placed during the live session or not. I don't have any email confirmations of bids being placed, as well.

Are you saying phantom bids were placed on your account? Yikes!

I have to admit I dropped in on the app a few times during one of the sessions and when I clicked on a coin on my 'watch list' it would pop open a window with that coin and the active auction underneath. In the process of closing the overlaid window to see the currently active coin I kept thinking it would not have taken too much fumble finger-ness on my part to hit the bid button inadvertently.

At least that is how the app renders on my phone. I really thought I'd hit the bid button on the first coin (it may have been a Mexico coin come to think of it). I was much more careful clicking around after that.

If you did not bid legit then should the winner be entitltled to a lower winning bid ?
