It's about a 0.6% difference in price, so pretty much a wash.

I agree with Perry. Out of the 2, I’d go with the AGEs. Too bad gold buffalos weren’t an option. That would’ve been my first choice.

One advantage the Maples have over the AGE's is that they are pure gold which is vastly more popular in Asia than alloyed gold. I also like the Buffalos which are pure gold but they seem to carry a premium over AGE's.

AGE if in US without question. Anywhere else on planet earth I'd probably go with the maples.

If one or the other only, than AGE's.
For collecting preference I'd select a couple maples and Krugerrands as part of the package.
At my experience level, for base level coins, never gotten much premium back.

The maples and then a 1/10 AGE with the savings.

I always go for the pre-33 on e bucks promo days and buy below spot after the 100 e bucks is earned

I would he happy with either one, but likely would go with the eagles.

    I used the stacker word.

Wouldn't 20 maples be preferred due to the savings and thus a higher stack as time goes by. Will there be a premium in a worst case scenario to make one better than the other?

In a “worst case scenario” nobody will want either of them.

If that did happen then there are probably other events of more importance. :|

Only drawback on Maples is in over the counter sale as bullion to dealer. If over 24 0ne oz's, IRS reporting kicks in. Eagles no limit. Here's a list of reportable bullion sales from Apmex,

    Reportable Item

    Minimum Fineness

    Minimum Reportable Amount

Gold Bars 0.995 Any size bars totaling 1 Kilo (32.15 troy oz) or more
Silver Bars 0.999 Any size bars totaling 1000 troy oz or more
Platinum Bars 0.995 Any size bars totaling 25 troy oz or more
Palladium Bars 0.9995 Any size bars totaling 100 troy oz or more
Gold 1 oz Krugerrand as minted Twenty-five (25) 1 oz coins
Gold 1 oz Maple Leaf as minted Twenty-five (25) 1 oz coins
Gold 1 oz Mexican Onza as minted Twenty-five (25) 1 oz coins
U.S. 90% Silver Coins as minted Any combination of dimes, quarters, or half-dollars totaling $1,000 face value or more

While I do prefer AGEs, there are often some real good deals on MS69 Gold Maples from reputable sellers.

I picked this up a month or two ago from Modern Coin Mart for what other dealers were asking for raw copies.

I seek out AGE's... the liquidity is definitely better.... That being said, the pure gold Maple Leafs, if close to melt, are definitely worth an investment. Cheers, RickO

What I always found weird was the last item, “U.S. 90% Silver Coins as minted Any combination of dimes, quarters, or half-dollars totaling $1,000 face value or more,” this is probably been passed on from iteration to iteration (changes) of the Tax Code because it is a bit archaic.

    yeah.

1000 oz of silver, but $1000 of 90%. doesn't seem right.

I've dabbled with some Maples, and I really like Buffalos - but if it's a black & white decision between 20 Maples vs. 20 Eagles, I'd have to go with the 20 Eagles every time.

I haven't read the tax code lately on 90% but a past reading confirmed that as originallywritten quarters were not mentioned!

Agreed but I'm content to leave well enough alone. Once that genie is out of the bottle mischief could ensue on all.
