All this talk about the supernova. It’s no super nova but it has some amazing luster in hand. Like the one from legend auction images don’t do it justice. Love this coin and years back a lot of dealers said to try for a plus or upgrade...
What do you think? Edit it’s ms66 and CAC

Outstanding
Much more desirable (to me) than supernova.

I love it!
I like yours better. True Views usually understate luster so it is probably a luster bomb in hand.
I'd rather have your coin and a few restored Chevy Nova's instead.
Im not sure on why there is so much hype on the super nova, reserve me a bid spot on yours tho!

Wow, amazing !!!
Love it. It looks super clean and dripping with luster.
Here's a side-by-side comparison with the "Supernova", which is 1 grade higher.

Beautiful coin, Traz! Is yours also from the SS C.A.?
Yeah it is but no longer gold foil.

Wow! If it looks like that in a pic, then it must be truly lustrous in-hand! That is an awesome piece @Traz.
When you can buy well over 10 quality aesthetic examples of a certified coin for the same money as the next grade or two above, you wonder why all the hoopla over a "supernova".
great coin congrats

I much prefer the OP coin... clean, great detail, fantastic luster.....No need for me to list the negatives on the other coin, they are obvious. Cheers, RickO
Beautiful coin. Drop dead gorgeous. Curious why it’s no longer in the gold foil?
I'm also curious. I love the gold foil inserts.
I like your coin much better also.
That 'super-nova' toning almost looks as though it could be destructive.
Sent it for TrueView and came back without it I didn't know that'd happen.

That's a serious beauty!

Absolutely love it. I had a really nice AU58 1857-S. That was the most expensive coin I ever purchased. I have never understood buying high grade MS coins with ugly toning. Remember, the saying "buy the coin not the holder"? Plastic set builders buy the plastic.
Your coin has all the right stuff and look.
If the "supernova" was sold on ebay I bet it would have trouble fetching 60 money.
+1
The OP's sea salvage coin has traces of real toning - not rust. Far more attractive and desirable part of a collection than stained items. (However, if one is making a display of sea salvage coins and bars, then rust is a significant part of the story and should be retained.)
i love that coin!
What a stunner!

That’s a really great coin.
I picked up a 65 from the 2nd salvage, basically the same coin with a few more ticks. It’s the one coin I have enjoyed the most over the past year, measured by how many times I take it out of the SDB to enjoy.
Coins like this are a reminder of the quality of coinage U.S. Mints produced - year after year.
Did you look at the price realized?
Don’t think he did 😀

Sweet coin! Sucks about losing the gold foil insert. Do you have the rest of the packaging?

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Yes I have the box. It said no box in description but it was there when it came!

Which does everyone like better, the SSCA Gen 1 holder with the gold foil insert or the SSCA Gen 2 holder with the gold nuggets?
Also, if a Gen 2 coin is reholdered, would you get 2 separate slabs back?
You have a very nice looking coin. Isn't it sad that so much emphasis now has to be placed on what plastic and stickers it has?
That baby is bad ass @Traz , Congrats!...I would bet it’s only a phone call away and one more trip back to SoCal from getting her gold dress back on...I mean how could our host say no to that one?
That's a magnificent example. I've been desiring one, and would be extremely happy if mine looked close to yours.
Top Drawer! Outstanding!

Gorgeous beauty!
I would rather have the OP's coin!!
It's beautiful!

Deserving of a poll.
Your coin is much nicer and will be demanded by more collectors going forward than that overmarketed and overhyped color job.

As a collector, I am not sure I would care one bit about having the box and papers. As for which holder, standard, gold foil or double holder with pinch of gold, I'd prefer the standard holder. The other two are too gimmicky for my taste, especially the double holder.
Only my personal preference expressed here. Not making a judgment as to the preference of others.

Thanks everyone. It’s really a monster and I think it deserves at least a plus. Will try again some day. Life is busy for now!

Your coin is awesome. While I'm a fan of toning, and despite knowing the coin's history, my first thought when looking at the 'supernova' coin is 'bad eBay AT job', even though that's certainly not the case.
Amazing coin
When I think of a Supernova gold coin, yours is it.
No question!
