Having been involved with cryptography for many years, that was an obvious oddity. E is the most commonly used letter in the English language and a key point in decoding low level encryptions. If you look at the U in United States, it has what appears to be horns due to a die crack. It looks more like an H (Hnited States)
@markelman1125 The theory is that two "I" punches were used rather than a "U" in UNITED so it comes off as IINITED, however the "I" in this typeface have no crossbars so you don't see the effect here.
