Nicaragua Sunface

harashaharasha Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭✭✭

When I came across this issue, I realized that I did not have an example of a Nicaragua crown, despite the fact that at some point in my coin collecting interests, I collected world crowns and Latin America crowns. I thought the price was reasonable, probably because of the defect on the obverse. Not too big a deal for me, as I collect by type and I have a limited budget. Really, a magnificent coin, imho.

Over the bust's right eye, in the lock of hair, there is what appears to be a defect in the planchet, like a hole. Under the loupe it does not appear to have been caused by a sharp impact. Rather, it looks to have been present upon issue. Could be wrong though and obviously, it did not stop NGC from grading it as AU58.
