I'm so tired of hearing it!!!!
COINS MAKE CENTS
Show after show I hear fellow dealers talk about being stolen from. Some dealers it's a 20 dollar coin, some dealers a coin in the hundreds, and some dealers a coin or coins in thousands!
I hate a thief! So much! It really infuriates me to hear these horror stories weekend after weekend from Good people just trying to earn a living or make some extra money.
I will keep my language clean with being on the forum and all but I'm sure most know what I'm thinking. I've heard 3 different horror stories this weekend from issues dealers have had in the past and I'm at a small show!
It just...... well it just upsets me theres so many thiefs that want to help themselves to people's hard earned coins and things that dont belong to them!!!!!

If you are tired hearing it, just turn your hearing aids OFF.

Didnt mean it that way, meant tired of hearing that it's happening!
HAPPY COLLECTING
I imagine coin shows attract three kinds of people: coin dealers, coin collectors, and thieves.
I hear you all loud and clear !!!
I certainly agree with the OP...Thieves are nasty people....Right there with all the other dregs of humanity. Cheers, RickO
Then don't listen to the hundreds (thousands?) of other venues where the same thing happens, just not with coins.
People are scum. Well, not all people, there are exceptions like me and everyone here (
), but it's pretty shocking that everyone in the retail industry has stories. A friend of mine used to own a Sports Card/Memorabilia store, and we went through great lengths to prevent theft, from installing shields so people couldn't reach around counters and places where they shouldn't be, to video surveillance. It cost some money, but not as much as he was losing.
The big problem with coins, is they're small and easily concealable. If they'd make slabs 8"x10", I'd bet they'd be harder to steal.
I love to hear that one of the bad guys got caught. There was a story a while back. When the thief ran, someone smashed his face into the floor. I don't like seeing people get hurt but some earn it.
Morals....most folks have them, some don’t.

I keep everything locked in my showcases. In showing items maintain tight control. If screwball requests - get rid of them. It helps to have a friend setup next to me who may watch if not busy.
Once I was in a busy super retail selling deal with world currency (whale of a customer) keeping tally sheet - interrupted twice from guy wanting sell some (horn in - after my customer) told him rather firmly “come back later in the show.” I made more money on that deal than everything else’s sold at the show. That seller never came back he was out to horn in / undersell me, take my deal. Be as aggressive needbe get rid them. Don’t let anybody come up horn in on your deal.
Rude and rotten.
Everyone knows that proper etiquette dictates that NO ONE should stick their face into or make comments between a Dealer and a Customer.
There should be no wonder why things are like they are now.
