My 1ST "Low Ball" a 1883 Barber Half Dollar
So as I mentioned before I can't figure out my recent attraction to these well worn smoothies? I think this might be my midlife crisis as I'm turning 50 in a few months. Yet I feel these are better than buying skinny jeans and a Corvette to chase women 1/2 my age?
Anyhow I was surfing collectors.com which landed me on uscoinbooks.com and there it was. The smoothest Charles Barber 1883 Hawaiian Half Dollar I'd ever seen and wholesome compared to most circulated examples which have seen a ton of abuse. So I just had to have it as I liked it more than many UNC examples which always had something which distracted me.
I see this as a AG3 and if certified would be the lowest graded as PCGS only has 1 G6 with fully formed rims and NGC a F15 which was formally in one of their Details Cleaned holders.
I may submit this with anticipation of it hopefully F2'ing which is doubtful... Still trying to get a grip on this whole Low Ball thingy as psychologically praying for a lower grade is like tossing away the rod and reel and going buck wild Hillbilly (Noodling) Handfishin'
Well enough jibber jabber as here it is

I love Good Cameos ++++
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much meat on that for anything close to a 3. The reverse is complete and the obverse nearly so. Good luck,
bob
Darn how about a G4?
As gosh I don't usually grade this low
Oh and pcgs has graded a PO1 and a FA2 for this Hawaii 1/2
I'd give yours an 8 based on that reverse.
bob:)
this is a PCGS
6 reverse:
Yeah and here's the G6 obverse which has more meat on the rims left than mine.
Well there’s always that corvette and those girls you were talking about.
Yeah so much for this as I figured it would be cheaper & less painful
Thanks as I don't mid being schooled a bit as this is officially my 4th under XF45 purchase in nearly 44 years in this hobby.
LOL, that's funny. But, am glad you are branching out with your widgets. I've never had a Hawaiian 1/2 dollar but it's on my list and this example of yours would please me greatly (if I was shopping for one, mind you I am not).

Thanks I like it too and would not have been a buyer of the slabbed G6 since I don't care for the surface conditions. I've been following the 1847/1883 Hawaiians and 1895 Puerto Rico coinage for 25-30 years. I bought everything printed on them but never pulled the trigger on any coins. My MS friends don't get what I bought here as it still gives me most of the design details along with saving me multiple thousands of dollars on just something in CH-Gem BU that would be a type coin.
Broadie. I think you need to make an appointment with @ColonelJessup

Nice one!

Why... Does he make custom tailored Hawaiian shirts on the side?
A coin I could love.

I grade it a “6”. As in, 6 years in your pocket will produce the grade you want.
Cool coin and I can see the attraction. Very nice
A '4' would not surprise me. You know how the 'different' stuff comes back sometimes.....
Bummer! It looks like yours has as much detail as that 6. I'm just laughing because you are hoping for a LOWER grade.
Don't worry about turning 50.................It's gonna get much worse.
Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
I would buy that coin....I have had this strange desire for a Hawaiian coin - preferably a half - for some time now... inexplicable, so have not been feverishly searching. I like it... shows considerable commerce, yet all details are still there.... Cheers, RickO
