Reproduction Mormon gold coins

I picked up these two replicas many years ago. They are both struck in gold, which makes them high quality fakes. Tonight I was showing them to a friend, and then went to look at the Charles Larson numismatic forgery book which has a $10 that looks like it was strike from identical dies. Does anyone know the story behind these specific reproductions? They are probably as close as I will come to owning originals of these two issues.

The actual dies still exist. Not sure about the replica coins you have, but I believe there was a commemorative event (centennial?) of some type that was accompanied by using an actual die for one side of a commemorative coin.

Here is my photo of the actual dies which appears in Karl v. Moulton's 900+ page tome titled, "John J. Ford, Jr. and The
Franklin Hoard" at page 267.

Moulton's book seen here from a video clip on the PCGS site positioned just behind David Hall's upraised hand.

Thanks. Do you recall the details on the piece that used one of the original dies for one side and what the event was for which it was made?

Mormon gold is on my wish list of coins I hope Dan Carr will do a fantasy strike of one day 🤞🏼

There were splashes done in copper years later. Kagin's book on Territorial Gold would have the details.

I pulled the coin out of the holder for the first time, and it is marked replica c m Larson. These helps to ID it better. Now to learn more about those specific strikes. :-)

No on the color, it just never looked right. When I get some time, I might try a different layout with the coins in color.
