Interesting Error - 1961-D with a broken "O" in GOD

WindycityWindycity Posts: 3,522 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have not seen this before but wondering if it is similar to a dropped letter error? This coin is from an original roll of uncirculated 1961-D quarters. Take a look... welcome comments.

Bizarre. I have looked at many 1961-Ds, albeit mostly in mint sets, and never seen one.

Not a broken 'O' on the die, but
    probably damaged by a hit.

See the D to the right, and the marks
on George's neck and lower field and
in the field above the motto.
    .

Chance it's a planchet lamination, but
based on the photos, at this time I'm
    thinkin' it's a hit
