What to do with a mini-hoard of Wheaties?

erwindocerwindoc Posts: 5,114 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just acquired a collection of coins that included a pretty large group of Lincolns from the teens and up. Pretty good mix of mint marks too! What would be the best way to sell them? Small or large lots on ebay? Local coin show? Other suggestions???

Try Craigslist. eBay, BST, etc., too much work to sell a penny for 2 or 3 cents and the postage is prohibitive. If you find buyer on Craigslist make sure to meet them at a Starbucks type place and make sure you’re not being followed home.

Kids love this chit. Give your young family member, friend, or neighbor the "job" of sorting them out into various lots, sell 'em on Ebay, and give the kid a percentage of the selling price for doing it. :)

They would be a great give away to YN's.

Mini-hoard as in hundreds? Thousands? Tens of thousands? Under 5k cents and it’s not worth to ship online as postage will cut most profits. Anything more than that and you can somewhat easily find a buyer either on these boards or eBay. In my opinion, sort them out first by date (key dates, teens, twentys, thirties, and later) and search for varieties. Those are fun to look for. Then, visit some local coin shops and get their buying rate for the date group. My LCS buys common wheats for 3 cents each. I also agree with above commenters. Start an album. Give some to YNs. You have many choices. Good luck!

Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.

I sorted a bunch into bags already, but unfortunately no key dates. Thanks for the suggestions.

I bought a hoard once out of Charleston, sc About 1 1/2 million. Over a 12 month period of course. Wouldn't let them bring them at once. Did sell a group of about 440K to a forum member that drove down to get em. They don't come around any more, they found somebody else paying a 1/2 cent more. more power to them I say

Did you check them over for errors/varieties?

Young Kids ? show them what its about. I bet they never knew what is on coins. my 10 yr old looked at me like, he never knew there's something on the gum token, or in his case the crane coins
