Hey Ray,
How are you?
I have been a coin collector for about 50 years give or take a few...in other words just about all my life. I will always be a coin collector. With that said do I always have that "coins before all" mentality ? Heck no.
I have taken breaks for years at a time. When the passion fades, so do I.
This kind of rejuvenates me and re-charges my batteries for when the passion returns. And it always does.
Sit back for a while and enjoy everything else around you and when you notice you are once again looking through your pocket change you'll realize the fun is back.
Oh, yeah, no question about losing the coin collecting bug, both in the past, and currently. With regards to presently, I'm still interested in seeing other peoples coins (and mine for that matter), I'm just not particularly interested in buying anything new. The last several years of going to both small local shows and big national shows got me rather bummed about all the dreck out there. The assorted series I'm particularly interested in collecting I've got a s---load of both raw and slabbed material, and the higher graded slabs on the market I've seen of late that are of interest to me have large price jumps for minimal "improvement" from what I've got.
The coins that I'm interested in purchasing these days, early US coinage, in the grades that I'm interested in, are in the hefty price range (at least for me), high four figures all the way up (and realistically my budget would choke on anything more than about $35,000 in any given year). I'm getting far more enjoyment for my collecting dollars, at a far lower comparative price point, for space memorabilia, also, that market is expanding in collector interest, so it's much more likely to produce a financial net positive than any coins purchased today are.

CAC and its ardent supporters have ended my interest in significant purchases of U.S. coins. There are loads of tokens, medals, British coins and political items to engage my interest. I hope that CAC will stay away from those areas.
Agreed, I believe cac has caused irreparable harm to this hobby for the sole enrichment of a very few individuals.
Your hobby is supposed to be your therapy, not the reason you need it.
Mine suffered a serious blow when my eyesight developed issues, making it harder to get out to shows (NOT that there seem to be any nearby anymore, either!), enjoy looking thru boxes & at small dates on the coins, and I was left really just needing the key/semi-keys for every set without the funds to ever go after them........ But I still try to keep current & follow the latest on this Forum.

I have lost the passion it in the past, but the coin bug has always come back to bite me square in the a** for some reason.
Anyone else?
You can check out if you like, but you can never leave

I've left a few times selling out to start businesses, but never lost total interest. I think I'm done starting businesses but I also never say never.
Gotta love the battleship notes! Mine is a prized possession!
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.
