Kellogg's PEP Cereal Babe Ruth Toy Ring - Now at 25!

Stone193Stone193 Posts: 24,435 ✭✭✭✭✭

I started with 1 ring and once I saw all the different colors - I was off to the races!

Kellogg's PEP Cereal Babe Ruth Toy Ring - c1949-51

When I got to color variation #3, I thought it was time to do a little research.

By the manufacturer, I'm sure everyone has inferred that it's a cereal box premium.

The ring measures about 9/16" in diameter, with 1/8" - wide shanks and a 5/8" square display table, with a 1/2" diameter cello inlay picturing Babe Ruth.

The plastic Babe Ruth toy ring was one of a 16 Ring set, featuring sports, aviation and Wild West themes. The one size fits all, premium Ring was inserted into boxes of Kellogg's PEP Cereal, and came in 6 different colors; Red, Blue, Green, Pink, Gold, Silver.

*complete cereal box picked up a few years ago

(now up to 22! )

So, here we go.

I figured when I started this thing that the "pink" might be the "SP" of rings - not necessarily due to production but rather "selection."

After all, what self-respecting kid would pull out a ring that's a wonderful shade of Pepto Bismol and yell "Keeper!" I'm sure these were either given to their kid sister or summarily deposited in the circular file?

So, while I've been collecting these variations for 10 yrs now? This is the "first" pinky ring!

I'm sure some might say? Now this is nuts! Well...

OK?

Mike

Always enjoy seeing your non-card items. Keep this up and you won't have any choice but to open up a museum. :) BTW what are the other non Babe Ruth rungs in the 16 ring set? Any photos/list of those?

    Hiya Paul - thanx buddy!

I don't collect the others - some can go pretty cheap.

This is right off of eBay - as you can see the fighter Gene Tunney was in the set.

    Hey Mike
Make sure you wear those to the Nationals this year. 😊

Nice collection Mike. Do you now have all the variations? The display says 6 colors. How many total are there with the different ring colors and different background colors?

And so true Nick - collecting is a slow grind where patience not only pays off in finding more stuff but at a good price also.

    Working on it Robert.

    Hiya Claude

    Thanx buddy.

If ya look at the colors - there's variations to the basic colors such that the amount of variations go thru the roof.
