That's a hefty loss. Do you think the package was targeted? I presume it was sent registered.
Terrible
wow that's a huge loss! Wonder if it was coming from CAC. I hope they find them and that they were shipped registered.
Ouch!
New Jersey has multiple high end dealers and/or entities that could ship a package like this, so I doubt it useful to speculate who the sender might have been.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
That seriously sucks!

Wow. That sucks. I assume that was not registered mail?! We have seen these threads before.
Wow... That is a terrible loss. I hope it is recovered, though often they are not. Cheers, RickO
Ouch, I hope someone processed the packaging for trace DNA. Peace Roy

Inside >>>>> Outside job
If FedEx could have such a lack of security on this type of shipment who else can we trust with ours?
Copied to the coin dealer network.
Usually it was the recipient's address that gives away the contents of the package. Also 'inside' job is what comes to mind but a lot of times it is eventually caught.
Gave post a like as you are reporting it, do not like the crime.
Really expedited and really fast shipping means it gets there really quick or not at all.~~~~
That’s one heck of a loss. I sure hope they show up somehow.
I feel your pain.
Sorry brother
Wow some really nice coins in that shipment, terrible loss, sorry. I hope they catch them before the coins get damaged as well.
Does not sound like it was shipped with the quickest FEDEX service. Jersey to Memphis to Dallas to Austin sounds like FEDEX ground. Or there were several plane rides.
But I do hope the thieves are caught!!
That is painful. Mail theft should have a higher punishment, maybe some of these thieves would think twice.
Collector, occasional seller
Hopefully the OP didn’t have a stake in the loss.
Actually it would be of some limited use to know who the sender was and if they had the wherewithal to insure. Could affect how one might direct shipment from said entity in the future.
Theft of USPS mail is covered by federal statute: 18 U.S. Code § 1708. Theft or receipt of stolen mail matter generally.
FEDEX/UPS is covered by ??? (Assuming it is based upon value and the local/state laws where the theft occurred?)
Fedex shipping costs are higher than those of the Post Office. However, IIRC from my own meager needs (50K,$5000 deductible when $50K per package - $100K packages very common at the top end), insurance rates are essentially the same.
Everything goes "box inside a box".
Brinks is still working on the same kind of theft, the finest known 1870-CC $20 AU58 NGC valued at $600K.
If you're talking lower values (most are), shipping costs are ballooning some peoples' transaction costs. Insurance rates are likely higher based on different (smaller) package sizes.
YMMV
There are unscrupulous employees for these companies, UPS and FedEx that know exactly what packages to look for that contain valuables. I had the opportunity to train with one of these companies in loss prevention. It was amazing to watch how these people knew what packages contained handguns and how quickly they could remove the weapon form the package. Most likely the same for coins and currency.
Wow, That is quite a loss. Hopefully the perpetrators will be identified when they try to sell.
