I had this graded by our hosts a decade ago and sold it shortly afterwards... I still miss it. AU55 If I remember correctly.
Well before I knew how to take a half decent photo also.
I sold this to David Kahn at the ANA in Philly. It's an O-114, R4+, XF40.
I've only sold a few coins and felt like it was good experience to negotiate the other way.
Wish I would have practiced with something else.
"If I say something in the woods and my wife isn't there to hear it.....am I still wrong?"
I was looking at the photos of this piece today while I was working on a presentation for my local club. This 1865 Nickel Three Cent Piece has extensive clash marks. It is indicative of the problems the mint had in producing these coins. I think that the grade was MS-64, but it was years age when I sold it. I wish I still had the piece because its historical interest.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
I've got some old photos somewhere of a Bust Half that I sold because I wanted one in a higher grade. A few months after I sold it that coin I found it living in a CAC'd PCGS holder at the higher grade I was seeking. This has probably happened to most of us. I mostly gave up that game and now I'm just trying to collect really nice coins at acceptable price points. Fighting for registry points isn't really my style.
The 60lb bag of unsearched silver dimes that my grandfather bought in the 70’s that was without warning sold for melt about a decade ago before I ever had a chance to really study its contents...I can at least confirm there weren’t any 1916-D’s. I would kill for the opportunity to hunker down and search it all for varieties.
No photos, but I have owned two slider 23S walkers that were head and shoulders nicer than the AU55
in my set. The profit motive got the best of me both times....
