Opinions on what might be going on with Ms. Liberty's cheek near the ear and hair?

Took a gamble with an option to return and am just trying to figure out what happened. Could it just be a shadow? I think someone mentioned that 2x2s sometimes get stuck and the result of trying to dip out the plastic creates an obvious area...is that what this is? Thanks in advance for any ideas! :)

"Could it just be a shadow?"

    That would be my guess.

Maybe moisture got on it if it was in a 2X2. Looks stained to me. I don't know enough about dipping to know if that would help or not.

    ~ BEAUTIFUL COIN ~

I can just hear the seller say: Its a beauty spot. Enjoy your coin!

Now the question is, how much of a gamble did you take?

In the eyes of the beholder, right? Not much of a gamble...I'm in the shallow end of the numismatic pool most of the time! ;) AND...it's a not so often found Vam that I have been wanting. We'll see.

Well, I have no idea what that smudge is. But if this is a low dollar deal then soaking or dipping may provide a good experiment and education. This is not something I get into, so I'll leave it to others to speculate on a solution.

Once you have the coin in hand, come back with pictures and describe what you see.... Good luck, hope it works out for you. Cheers, RickO

If it is a coin you would be proud to post here, it is the right one.

To me, it just looks like a shadow, that's all I see...
