Devens MA show today

My son and I made the pilgrimage down from the great north woods yesterday afternoon and crashed with some friends in the north suburbs. Pretty busy when we first got there at 10 AM. We saw a bunch of the usual players - from the forum, Dave Wnuck, CRO, Jake Gomez, Indeetlib, not sure who else ... we worked pretty hard to find anything we could buy off either of our lists but it was slow going. I found a choice AU no-motto $5 Lib I liked, but the seller and I were a little too far apart. I looked at a Lafayette that was kind of an almost-but-not-quite for me. I filled the last two holes in my no-big-deal raw Franklin album set with coins I bought from Bob of Bob's Coins in Chelmsford. He's been selling coins to me since I was in fourth grade. We were just about to leave, having come up all but empty, when we spotted this lovely little thing peeking from a jumble in an unmanned case. Eventually we connected with the seller. It's a lightly prooflike OGH 55 with a really sharp look in hand, and it seemed well worth the price he was asking. Fun way to spend a rainy day --

Thanks for the report @mirabela! Does your son have an interest in the hobby?

He does, @Hemispherical -- he keeps a limited type set; I think his real targets today were a nice Unc buffalo nickel and/or a VF or XF Carson City dime. Buffs weren't hard to find but I don't think he saw any that really called his name. I didn't see any seated dimes of the sort he was after, and I don't think he did either. He bought an unc roll of 2019 pennies for $2 and called it a day.

That’s great and good to see he has an objective for his collection.

It does not get much better than a father and son day at a show. Thanks for the report.

It's nice that you got to enjoy the day with your son. I debated going to this show today and I somewhat regret deciding against it.

Why would you pay $2 for an Unc roll of 2019 pennies???? If there is really a market for crap like that I know the direction of my retirement nest egg!

Nice report... sorry you could not find more.... But that happens, I have been to several shows where I did not buy a single coin.... just none that jumped out and said "Take me home!"....I always enjoyed the shows though...Cheers, RickO

@amwldcoin re: paying $2 for a roll of 2019 pennies -- his point was to open it up and pull out the couple of best ones. Theoretically one could do that for 50 cents but the banks around here don't reliably have rolls of this year's coins. They seemed to quit that after the state quarters.

We should all be so lucky as to enjoy the hobby for the price of a cup of coffee ...

My big question is why did I get warned for this? Are we going to have to walk on eggshells around here now???

@amwldcoin -- not sure what you mean 'warned?' When you include somebody by name in a thread it sends a notification (seems to have been this way since the 'new' forum function began, whenever that was?). I got a notification of your response, you got one of mine. No offense taken or intended over here, hope the same is true there, say whatcha want ...

Look at my post. Heather issued me a warning because of it. Is she out to get me? I thought it was pretty benign myself and still do. My insinuation was I could go to the bank....buy tons of shiny new pennies and quadrouple my money!

PS the only name inclusion was quoting your post.

@amwldcoin you got warned for calling what his son bought “crap”. Pick a different word. Also you used 4 question marks. That’s too many.

Missed it, my eyes/mind played tricks and read “cents” but I see now. ;)

Must have been that other thread with the discourse on pennies vs cents. 🕳
