Does this board still do group buys on BBCE packs?

I remember years ago. 2010 or so the board members used to do group buys via Steve Hart who would ship direct from a fresh box. My last experience was a group buy on 1979 Topps wax. Those were fun times.
Does it still go on?

I took part in a number from 2012 through about 2015. I don't know that the past organizers post too often anymore. I am guessing there would still be interest in this. It is probably a matter of finding someone willing to talk to Steve and organize it.
As said earlier I also joined in these back in 2012-2015

Have been involved with a lot of these past 10 years. Fun times.
In additional to the former leaders dropping off a bit, the prices play a role, as does the smaller inventory.
We ripped a 75 mini box and if I recall correctly at ~$75/pack. The 78’s and 79’s are still an option. But unless you are buying to hold the ROI on most 70’s ripping is pretty bad.
In fact the 75 min packs may have been closed to $50-60.
I still have 6 unopened 1977 wax packs from a group rip and a few 1978 rack packs.
I believe right now 78 rack packs are a good buy as they will go a lot higher in the next 5 years.
Does anyone still have interest in doing these group buys? It’d be a great way to get into fresh packs. Send them in for grading. Kind of a shared fun investment experiment.

I am in!
I would be interested also.
I think the economics of a break have become marginal. While never "cheap" by any means, the cost was competitive especially considering it comes directly from BBCE.
Group rips are always fun. I would be in on some 80's baseball or football topps rack or cello packs.
I miss the group breaks. We had some great ones over the years. Some of the boxes and cases we used to break aren't available anymore but I'd love to see a group rip happen again.

I would also be in on a nice group break. I wonder if Steve would offer any discount in today's market if we built a big enough order? Either way, he does still have some nice stuff from the late 70's on up, including a 1977 Topps FB $3300, a 1980/81 BKB for $6000 and plenty of early 80's BB and FB.
While not participating in as many as others.
I enjoyed watching - especially for those that immediately ripped.
I still have a 5-pack of BBCEx sealed 75T mini's.
I’m in
If it’s ‘89 topps baseball packs I’m in!!
A 192-ct case of 1980 Topps baseball wax racks just sold, too..

Let’s do it

Tim, had been watching that 80 rack case. It is a big investment for a set dominated by the Rickey. $200 / pack. That would have been a great group break!
Some of you guys have been around longer than I, but I kept track of the prices I paid in group breaks over the years:
Baseball:
March of 2010, we did 75 mini packs for $31.50
October of 2011, we did the 78 OPC case at $281 per box
September of 2012, we did 75 regular cello packs for $105
May of 2012, we did 72 Topps 5th/6th series packs for $225
May of 2012, we did 73 Topps 5th series packs for $195
Basketball:
October of 2011, we did 1980-81 packs for $31
May of 2012, we did 1986-87 fleer packs for $375, and then again in September for $389
January of 2013, 1987-88 fleer packs for $31
Football:
July of 2011, we did 81, 84, and 86 Topps packs for $11
Non-sports:
April of 2011, we did 1st series Garbage Pail packs for $22.50
Those were the days!

Ar 25K, it would have worked out to $130 a wax rack, which is not too bad these days as individual wax racks now sell for $110-$120 on ebay. That would have been a nice group break indeed.

Those were the days indeed! I also remember a 1977 baseball wax case break at $1,100 a box, too!

I am always in for football packs. I have done a bunch of these in the past and they are always fun. Seems a lot of the board members who participated have been booted from these boards or have just left since they boards are a lot quieter than in years past.
1981 Topps Football Rack case? (72 racks)

The 1985 Donruss rack case looks like fun.
Baseball or football case would be awesome.

I'm in. That 1980 would have been nice.
Thanks,

Yes, but 192 racks inside. We may have filled it. I'd have bought 5 at least.

Or we could purchase something off eBay that is already BBCE wrapped. Some nice boxes out there. Whoever organizes could wait for an eBay bucks day -- a little kickback for the effort.
Andy
Ahopkins easier just to stay with BBCE in my mind.

Love 82 Donruss. And it’s still very cost effective. Just don’t expect many centered cards lol

Well seems like there’s plenty of interest. We just need somebody to contact Steve and run the thing, lol. I actually don’t even know If I would be getting in on any of the packs/boxes as I’m pretty focused on basketball these days, but I would volunteer to be the point man on this if no one else wants to do it. I’ll start by sending an email to Steve and then we can use this thread to get ideas of products we want to ask for.
I'm interested. Depending on the product(s), I would likely be in for some slots.
Jeff
Sounds good, Steve. I'd be willing to help run it, as well.

Great to see some old names pop up and I’m in too!
Sorry I’m not seasoned enough to run anything so thank you to those willing to coordinate.

I could be wrong but I think the interest to participate has always been around. I think it's a lack of interest in coordinating and distributing that explains why the breaks pretty much stopped.
That being said I'm in for participating. But not the other stuff. Waaaayyyyyy too much work!!! lol
Thanks Steve and Tim, count me in too.
John
I'm in for any.
82 Donruss feels a little junky to me. Even the Cal's don't seem to get anyone excited.
81 Football.....seems these are readily available...almost too much so!
83 Topps is an idea
86 Fleer MJ box....hehe
Probably unlikely with the current market, but I sent Steve an email asking if there is a certain dollar amount that we could purchase where he would be able to offer any discount. Hopefully. I'll hear back tomorrow.
I'm in for anything. There is a 1989 Upper Deck Low Series Case on Steel City Collectibles for only $2649.95, which is about $500 less than the one on BBCE. https://www.steelcitycollectibles.com/i/1989-upper-deck-baseball-low-series-factory-sealed-20-box-case
