CrazyHoundDog PCGS Coin Update

Hello everyone,
Our restoration team has been working their behinds off downstairs processing what Joe (@crazyhounddog) refers to as "the lions share" of his collection. And I simply CANNOT wait any longer to share some of the amazing outcomes with you all (Joe has already seen these.)
We are not done processing the 140+ coins yet (and therefore some certs will not yet show as valid) but here are some of my favorites from Joe's amazing toned buffalo collection that kept their toning:
And of course, this beauty made our jaws drop!
Our incredibly talented label designer also worked with Joe to create something truly special using an image Joe's family voted as the best visual representation of him which I will save to show you guys next week. Why? Because I love cliffhangers and I'd like to give you all something to look forward to over the weekend.
Joe, from the bottom of my heart (and from the whole team here), thank you for sharing your story with us and your unending hope and positivity. This project has provided a lot of warm fuzzies for us all, even in the midst of great tragedy.
Heres some images of the state of Joe's coins when we recieved them:

Wow! Great work PCGS! Thanks @HeatherBoyd for sharing and looking forward to the update on @crazyhounddog FireStorm hoard.
Simply Wonderful!
Although from a artist standpoint some of the slabs remind me of paintings by Salvador Dali.
Going from melted blobs of plastic to those great looking coins is truly a work of art. Kudos to PCGS. Can't wait to see the label.
Later, Paul.
Sometimes, I need my faith in humanity restored.
This effort by us all (with a big assist to you guys at PCGS) to help make Joe somewhat whole is my reminder that there is still good in this world.
Thanks for the update Heather. It was nice meeting you at FUN and talking about coins and dogs.
Those Buffalos are stunning thank to PCGS for helping him like this.

Amazing! Great job PCGS!!!!
I have to ask, were there any that couldn't be saved or changed significantly from the heat?

THIS is what has been holding up the line? (sarcasm)
A magnificent job by the restoration team!
Shoot-fire, some of those blobs of plastic look like they could be art as well as the treasurers inside!
A pedigree would have been nice.

It would be great to do an article on PCGS.com like the restoration of the Saddle Ridge and the SS Central America Hoards.
If there are some cheap coins, it may be interesting to leave them in the melted slabs....
Kudos to PCGS. Amazin1. Amazing that a profit motivated company Has The biggest heart I know.

@HeatherBoyd
Those coins look fantastic.
How are the grades compared to what they were before?
I would never believed that those coins could be restored to the condition as in the True-Views that you posted! I love Buffalo's myself but that $2 1/2 Gold Indian makes me drool!!!!!
That is very nice of PCGS to do this.
Awesome!
SO AWESOME!!!!!!!
Love those gold ones!
Really cool stuff. Can’t wait to see the rest.
What has been said above.....and more. Can't wait for the reveal!

WELL DONE! PCGS
You are da BEST PCGS and @HeatherBoyd !
For those of you with a decent safe you can purchase compact automatic fire extinguishers that hang in a bracket inside that might buy a little more time for your coins and valuables. However I doubt this one would have helped Joe.
There was paper and cardboard inside the safe that did not combust, however the inside of the safe did reach temperatures high enough to melt holders and plastic boxes.

PCGS has been heaven sent to myself my family and now this amazing job they are doing to restore my beautiful coins. Again this is one of those deals where thank you seems so shallow. But thank you😊. So now I would like to give back and I will. Sweet Heather has sent me some pics of my coins and they are pretty much the same as before the fire and I am ecstatic about that. The work is not quite done yet but it’s close. I have also been working with Heather on my slab inserts and I’ve gotta say they are without question the coolest ones I’ve ever seen. A shout out to, Jack, the artist that worked with me on the inserts . I can’t wait for you guys and ladies to see this. I can’t wait to get them back either.
Much love to all, Joe
WTG PCGS and the best to my dear friend Joe and his family.
Great news!
Holy cow! What a great job by PCGS! I went through a total house fire in 2015 but fortunately my coins weren't in the house at the time. What survived was melted, charred, or covered with a thick coat of ash and residue from black smoke. The smell is imbedded and lingers in any item that survives so you can't really save anything. The whole day was surreal and nothing I will ever forget.
To this day I appreciate from the bottom of my heart everyone who helped try to make it better for us. From the restaurant who gave us a free meal that night to the firemen who still stop and talk to us at the grocery store. I'm sure Joe feels the same way! Kudos to PCGS for trying to make it better!!!
I'm happy for Joe and his resilient family.
My hat is off to the whole numismatic community.

Bravo PCGS, Bravo!!! It's really a wonderful thing you guy's are doing. And, I along with many others will long remember it.
That is great to see. It is truly a good outcome from a terrible event. Kudos to PCGS for doing such a nice thing.
I'm heartened that the results came out successfully and the coins regained their former beauty. Very well done!!
CHD, that is GREAT NEWS!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Just this past week I was looking at those but didn't dig too deep. I wonder if the chill of a CO₂ extinguisher would last a substantial time in an insulated fire-proof safe?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I would like to say this.
IF you have your coins, or anything else, you want to protect in a fire like we went through with EXTREME heat I would like to make some recommendations. When I get the time I will post a thread about this but for now here we go.
Paper envelopes will protect your raw coins more than any other way. I had way too many coins I was going to submit for grading that were in a pcgs blue box in my safe. The safe is “Fire Proof” so paper will not burn and it didn’t. Mylar flips of any other plastic will melt and melt itself around your coin. Unfortunately I had many coins in Mylar flips.
The next and maybe even better is bubble wrap. The air in between really insulates. It was amazing to see one of my beautiful old commemorative coins in its original ( museum quality ) box still as it was before the fire because it was wrapped in bubble wrap. So, if you have a (Fire Proof) safe and you have raw coins those little paper envelopes are the ticket. Also as a note my, Kimber 45 still fires. I will still send it in to maybe have the springs replaced as they perhaps have been tempered, just a precaution.
When I get the time I’ll do a thread with pictures to show what I’m talking about. Just remember, Fire Proof, not melt proof. My 1942 Jewelers safe did it’s job.
Happy hunting, Joe
Wow ... wow ... wow!

Awesome....
I'm glad to hear that my forum pal ( Joe ) now has a good grasp back on his heard.
Are the coins now considered AT because of the conditions that they were exposed to?
Just amazing! Wonderful epilogue to a tragic story. PCGS....you're really # 1
