I saw Gary Carter Supercollector Anthony Cali post this on FB, and thought it would be fun to see what the folks on CU would say.

In honor of President's Day, what is the Mount Rushmore of your collection? It may change later, but here is mine for now!

Great topic. Mine would have to be 1956 Topps Mantle, PSA 5, 1958 Topps Jim Brown SGC 70, 1972 Topps Roger Staubach PSA 7 and 1971 OPC Guy Lafleur PSA 7,

Looking at the results, it’s Jordan, Mantle and the rest of the field.

I have seen Matt’s 52 Mantle in person at the Louisville Slugger museum a few years ago when it was on display, and centering, color, and eye appeal on it are incredible. Be hard pressed to find many Mantle rookies in any grade with that centering, and despite it “only” being a 4,5 it is one of the best in the hobby.

I tried my best that day but the guard was tough. Made him a turkey sandwich, glass of milk, some melatonin, and even gave him some Benadryl for his allergies but the guy would not fall asleep. 😂

Is that a Type 1 photo of John L Sullivan?

Yikes....my Mount Rushmore would look more like an ant hill in comparison to some of these. Great posts!

Main collecting focus is Patrick Roy playing days 85/86-02/03, expect 1/1, National/All-Star stamped cards.PC Completion: 2,548/2,952; 86.31% My Patrick Roy PC Website:https://proy33collector.weebly.com

  • My Mt Rushmores are my 89 Upper Deck Ken Griffey PSA 10, 82 Fleer Cal Ripken PSA 10, and the best of them is my 1974 Fun Bag with a mix of baseball, football, basketball, and wacky packages - I love Fun Bags, so that one is my favorite, though the Griffey card is a beautiful looking card.

Thank you for the comments guys. In full disclosure my Rushmore has had a facelift recently due to a few “offers I could not refuse” to quote The Godfather. I have a few other cards I chasing - a couple of big ones plus I have been adding some 70’s unopened racks to the collection recently. Have a big one I should receive in the next few days I will post here.

  • Amazing stuff! Such a diverse group of cards/items.

I have also seen (and tried to steal) Matt's 52 Mantle. The pics don't do it justice.

My humble top 4 keep with the Mantle and Jordan theme since that's basically all I collect. I debated including a Judge or Ruth but these 4 are just my hands down favorites.

I would have to put these 4 Roy's as mine:

There has been some fire posted above...those Mantles... that Cobb... whoa!!!!

Here's mine...It's very difficult to choose only four.

I chose this Trout rookie because it's pretty rare...I think.

    Jackie...because Jackie

Clemente because he's hands down, my favorite

Mickey because he looks good even with a pin hole!

Paul, That Trout is VERY rare! It’s one of his rarest RC’s. It doesn’t get the respect for how difficult it is because it’s Panini and they don’t have the license, but that’s a ridiculously hard card to find. A BGS 8 just sold for $550 for reference.

This is a damn good porn errrrr I mean card thread! KC beautiful cards. The 53 Topps Mantle is my favorite card all time. If I could own one card and one only it would be a 53 Mantle.

That 55 Mantle PSA 9 is simply insane! I haven’t ever seen that card in that grade that I can remember.

Matt C, your 51 and 52 Mantle are beautiful examples. Can’t get tired ever of looking at them.

Rob, Beauty Jordan 10 and Brady!! That’s a HUGE card.

52 Bowman Musial in 10. I believe that’s a pop 1? I had it in 9 and there were NO PSA 10’s at the time. Insane card.

So much killer stuff, I can’t comment on it all.

    Matt,

I've been thinking this the whole time the Topps RC keeps rising in price...there's only 99 of the Prime Cuts...
