1969 D No Designer Initials

I have a 1969 D penny with no designer initials. I have been looking it up and found that the initials have likely been polished off. I have several where I can see remnants of "FG", but on this one, I don't see anything,

except a bit of cloudiness that appears other places as well. What do you think? Thanks

Oh that’s a unique find, I wonder why someone would want to polish the designer initials off....

It's not intentional. When the polish the dies, you lose features.

It also could simply be a filled die.

    It is quite common.

From what I have been able to research, they believe it was accidental, and someone just overpolished. Other say the initials were left off accidentally, but I don't believe that, because I have quite a few where there is a trace of something there, but not identifiable as "FG", and some say it is a die question. Whatever it is, it has been identified on the PGCS coin facts website as:
    1969-D 1C No FG FS-901, (Regular Strike).

Unless I find a better example, I am adding this to my collection. :-)

@Nscjohnson Wow.. that’s great! If it’s identified by PCGS, then there’s no need for further clarification.. Cheers! Thanks for the info... :)

Great find, and already attributed by PCGS.

I also am inclined to believe that the initials were not left off intentionally as they would have been part of the master hub. The "erasure" would have been due to overzealous die polishing.

You might really need to look harder at other die characteristics. You could also lose the FG due to the die filling which would NOT be the same thing.

I now have a red 1969-D, there is a faint FG, see with a loop. I'm no expert, but from what I read, it looks like the faint FG is from the polishing. There are other "No FG" varieties, I'm sure that PCGS can add a "Weak FG" as another with my newest coin. Photo soon.

At least three other series that have no designer's initials are collected-Buffalo 5c, Walking Liberty 50c, and Kennedy 50c.
