Seller also has a fake 1918 half listed.
Sent the seller the following message. See what he says
Could you please explain why this coin looks different than the one in the PCGS database with the same certification number?

Seller got right back to me.....lets see what he does
His response "I had never looked at it, I bought this at a flea market and just decided to list it. I don’t know anything about coins, I will go look now"
He does look right about not selling many coins, so maybe he is telling the truth.

Gone.
It has been taken down. I agree with you, I believe he's telling the truth.
Hopefully the owner messages PCGS.
Guess we caught him with his pants down.....maybe he really didn't know. at least he did the right thing.

His response.....posted after my last comment
Yeah it doesn’t match, I don’t really know why. I bought this at a flea market last summer because I thought it was cool but I don’t know anything about coins so it looks like I was taken advantage of.

@segoja
Might mention to him about the 1918 half also.
I got a different response. She said she got it from a "gentleman in his 30's" and didn't mention anything about a flea market. Bought both the TD and the Lincoln comm from the same person.

"Flea market" ... do they ever learn?
The go to lines, every scammer tells me same thing. "oh I didn't know, bought it at a flea market or found it in grandpa's sock drawer." lulz

Ebay's reluctance to punish sellers that continue to re-list counterfeits many times disgusts me to no end. The FTC's reluctance to do anything at all is even worse.

Hey. maybe it was a "gentleman in his 30's" at "a flea market"? hahaha

What does a "gentleman" look like in his 30's? Anyone got a pic?

I think the industry should get together and pay the USSS to prosecute some of these small fish cases and increase the awareness of the issue.
I get the same lame responses when I question sellers of fake coins on our local version of eBay here in NZ.
Smitten with DBLCs.
A good lawyer could lead a class action against ebay, Etsy and Amazon. There is enough proof they have allowed this to continue.
I love shopping on ebay and do not want to see the freedom to list honest items there change. I hate this plague on our hobby more and would be willing to risk my buying privileges to stop what is happening.
Someone in the US government cared enough to get the CCPA passed. It specifically makes aiding the sale of counterfeit coins a crime. I wish they, or someone, had the influence to have it enforced.
I believe it is the responsibility of the FTC to prosecute these crimes.

World wide problem.

Gentlemen do not sell fake coins.
“I got it at the flea market”, is what they all say.
A fake coin in a fake slab. Just pay for it with fake money and it's all good.
For good measure, buy the fake money at a flea market.
Seller claims that he doesn't really know about coins and doesn't sell many. He's got dozens listed. Bullpucky.

Link posted above, 4th from the top, does not go to right coin or seller. Once the fake TD was removed the link takes you to another coin from another seller and even a different date. We all need to keep this in mind when posting links to fakes as this happens often here on the forum.
bob
ifthevamzarockin needs to remove his link. Otherwise someone's gonna report an authentic coin and an innocent seller.

Here's another FAKE trade dollar in a FAKE PCGS holder that sold on eBay for $1,249.98:

This is why ALL TPGS must keep an online database of pictures of their certified coins.
You know, if the buyer paid for the fake coin with fake USD's it would get someones attention (Treasury/FBI)!
Are you sure you have the right seller (thecrazywombat)? I see no coins currently listed for sale and only one or two in his completed listings.

That thing really looks like an AU-53 .... Right.
He's probably looking at the redirected item in the now useless link.
That would make sense. Either way, it sure seems as if Ebay could handle ended listings in a clearer manner!

Well, they assume that you are looking to buy so they do the obvious retail thing: redirect you to a coin that you could buy.
Thanksfor picking that up, Mark - I was redirected to another listing. Having no other frame of reference, I assumed too much. I stand corrected, and apologise.

This is an ebay issue that we need to understand. Ebay does the redirect to an active listing that is the same or similar so that you buy something. They do not care one iota about fakes, or even that we use completed sales for research. They are in the business to sell product. period.
When referring to a current listing by providing a link (which I did not do) be cautious that when that listing is nuked your link is also changed. No longer referring to the auction that you thought. As happened in this thread. I know that we all do not read every response to every thread but that is dangerous too. About ten responses above yours I warned everyone that the link was to the wrong seller/coin and to ignore that link that @ifthevamzarockin posted.
bob
I hate that feature. I have gotten snagged a number of times while trying to find a specific listing. And they call it "progress"...
PCGS - Please image every coin you certify, and add the image to the coin certification page. Thank you!
