Lot of the 5 KOPEKS are not perfect...

The Lydian Siglos of Croesus (from the saying As Rich as Croesus). This was the first silver coin ever made, from a series which included the first gold coin ever made. Indeed, some numismatists believe these were the first true coins ever made, because the earlier proto-coin electrum pieces made by his father Alyattes were imprecise and therefore incapable of the critical element of being easily exchanged from one transaction to the next.
The Croeseid series were standardized, with 1 gold coin (of 8.1 grams) equivalent to 10 silver coins of (10.7 grams each).
I believe the dawn of coinage was one of the most significant events in human history. And this piece and its brothers and sisters are why we are all here, literally and figuratively.

This one is almost round, but just not quite round; although, not bad being 750 years old!
Well...nothing like the above coins but I've had it for quite some time. I hope it fits the category.

Nice tanner @coinsarefun and love the pyataks @JRocco - I have a load of those Pyataks from when they were inexpensive and easy to get out of Russia. The tanner is one I'd love to own.
Here is one of my favourite ancients, when it came up on Martina Dieterle's webpage I didn't even hesitate to buy it.
Circa 410 BC. Hemilitron (3.21 gm; 18 mm x 14 mm). Head of Arethusa left, hair in ampyx and sphendone, in field right, laurel twig; whole in linear circle / ΣΥΡΑ Dolphin right, below, pecten. Calciati II, 55, 24. SNG ANS 418. This piece, though unsigned, may have been created by one of the greats of Syracuse minting, as it displays superior skills in artistic approach and engraving.
And another with a much larger casting sprue:
This coin is a hemi litron from ca. 405-395 BCE. Curiously this is a cast piece, and the casting spur was never removed from the coin, making for a very dramatically formed coin which probably did not circulate for long, but may have been saved as a curiousity or perhaps never circulated at all. This piece has a portrait of Arethusa on the obverse and a dolphin and clam shell on the reverse.
Syracuse Sicily Hemilitron ca. 410 BC
@CCDollar that’s EXACTLY what I was looking for when I stared this thread.NICE

@Justacommeman
Great pictures. Did you take them yourself? Curious as how you got the toning to show so well.
Thanks SaorAlba, your knowledge never ceases to amaze me.

Some killer material here. I wish the software would allow for a "love" option.

Saw this on the early bird CRO email, when it was already on hold. It is a spectacular piece, and I'm glad it stayed in the PCGS "family."
Congrats!
